Anyone interested in forming an online Bible Study Group?

I was curious to see if anyone would be interested in forming a Bible Study Group. I was looking at maybe doing the book of Wisdom, but am open to any suggestions or willing to join a study that already exists.

The book of Wisdom has always seem intersting to me. Let me know you when and how!

I’d like to take part in one. The Wisdom books are some of my weakest areas of the bible. I just don’t get them, but would like to.

I’m used to doing one face to face with people, but there are so many different viewpoints and knowledge bases on this forum, I thought it would be great to tap into that resource! I thought that we could take a chapter (more or less) a week ( or more often…). We could either post a thread on the book and chapter each week (or what ever frequency we’ve agreed on) or start our own email chain. What do y’all think? I’m open to suggestions. Also, do you know of any good resources to help us with the Wisdom books?

a) Start a different thread with each chapter: This way, someone would be more likely to join a thread even though we might be in chapter 6. BTW, I like the pace of a 1 chapter a week study.

b) On the OP of each chapter, introduce the Bible Study and give the address of all the related threads, i.e. chapter 1, chapter 2, etc.

c) I wouldn’t post the whole chapter in the OP of each thread, s (although this is simply my opinion). I don’t mind un-wrapping the whole chapter over the course of a week rather than brain-dumping the whole chapter to unpack at one time.

Again, this is just my opinion.
 
I offer my site as an option, it has a forum with lots of resources. Plus I can create pages for a Bible study, and members of the site can also create web pages too. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

These are really great ideas. I think that one chapter a week will be great. If one chapter happens to be longer than others, we could always extend it into another week or something like that. I could go either way regarding the OP with the entire chapter. I was sent a link to show an example of another group who was doing the Gospel of John and they put the whole chapter in the thread. I suppose it isn’t necessary because the idea is doing the study with your own Bible (or Bible on the internet). What does everyone else think?

Thank you. Let’s try it out on CAF and then maybe provide a link back to your site for additional resources and commentary.
 
Christ quoted heavily from Wisdom, although this is not so obvious because we read Christ’s words in English translated from New Testament Greek translated from Aramaic, where the words of Christ quoting Wisdom were a translation of the Septuagint’s Greek, which we read now in English. So, layer after layer of translation injures the evidence that, in fact, our Lord made extremely heavy use of this book rejected by our Protestant brothers.

(Wisdom) English → Greek → Aramaic → Greek → English (Gospels)
 
I’m as easy going as the next person… one chapter/wk sound good; I don’t think that we need to post the chapter on the OP; if there are dissimilarities in the text we can then post the pertinent passage/s;

If anyone has fluency in pertinent languages (Aramaic, Greek, Hebrew) he/she might be able to enhance the study by posting qualifying and concise explanations (ie: "and the Most High takes care of them.–Wisdom 5:15c; what is the Aramaic word/phrase for Most High and has there been some loss in its translation?)

Jag contacted me since I have done this before and we have gotten approval from Moderator Michael Francis to go ahead and set it up.

This will be a bit different than the one that I did before as each chapter will begin a new thread and MF will update the links to each chapter thread in the sticky for the study so that no one will get lost and people can catch up more easily. Hopefull this will work out well.

He has asked that Jag and I take the lead on this and we have agreed.

This happens to be one of my own personal favorite parts of scripture, so I am also looking forward to it.

This time we will still post the chapter in the opening post, but so long as you let us know what translation you are using in your posts, it shouldn’t matter very much and like I told Jag, different translations can bring out insights.

We will be using the New American Bible this time, but as I said, feel free to use whatever you like.

Every one ready? (BTW, Spread the word. Put a link to the sticky in your signature if you want to. The more people the better I think.) 🙂

Remember, this is not going to be a debate thread. That would inhibit the study.
 
As a fairly new member, it seems that a thread with its main intent being the study (of Wisdom, right?) would be a good way to get my feet wet. Please consider me “joined.” I do think that we ought to keep some focus on the ways in which Jesus used the books, as mentioned, and any tie toward our own study of apologetics. Lee

…so how does this work? …are you posting a link or running from the bottom of this thread… do you have an expected date or are you awaiting for additional members to signal their interest?
