Anyone have direct experience with Alan Ames?

alanames.org/en/alans-story.htm

He’s coming to my parish and I have to admit, it seems a bit hokey, sorta like the guys on TV touching people and knocking them down and such.

But my eyes have been bothering me more lately, and I would be awsome if this was for real.

Thoughts?

Is he the man from Australia that has the healing ministry? I went to a mass where he did his ministry. As far as I know he is for real. Certainly not everybody who goes to him with an illness gets healed but some will. I went to him and he prays over you and some people are “slain in the spirit” as they say, and some are not. But as he and others at such events say, whether or not you fall down is not a barometer for your faith level. I would say to ask for the Lord’s will and for healing and if your eyes are healed then rejoice!

Sorry I didn’t notice the link before I posted. I have heard him on Relevant Radio, so he should be legit. people on RR are usually if not always legit.

…On second thought, let me correct myself: They are usually, NOT always legit.

He came to my parish last year. Very believable, good speaker. My pastor checks people thoroughly before inviting them. I liked him and have bought some of his books. He was invited to several parishes in our diocese. He is not pompous, but clear and to the point. Gives all the credit to God. He seems an unlikely sort to be devoting his life to this but that is what made him more real.

I liked him. I would go and see for yourself. Many people were slain in the spirit, He’s better, not arrogant, like some I have seen.

God bless,
Susan

The private revelations of Alan Ames are not approved by the Church.

He will be coming to our area soon too. He has the approval of his Bishop and our Cardinal has also welcomed him to come to parishes in our area. I plan on going and so is my family.

Code:
That is exactly what we should do. Follow our Bishop's and Cardinal's lead. Let they who have the power and authority discern the situation. Christ will respect that. He knows that it is hard for us to make sense of things. We have the Promises of Christ to His Church.

I am not familiar with Alan Almes, but I read his messages from Heaven (in the link provided by theresezoi), and they do not sound authentic at all. 😦

It is 12 years now since I first met Alan Ames and I also got involved in organising for him during the past years.

What I like first and foremost is that he is 100% obedient to his bishop Barry J. Hickey from Perth, Australia. This bishop gave him a spiritual director as well as guidelines for his ministry, and whatever is published has been checked by the bishop and/or those he appointed to check the writings. What I have read so far is 100% in line with Catholic teaching, and that is what Alan’s spiritual director and other theologians also say.The Church has not yet given her final word about Alan’s messages, visions etc. because all this is still going on in his life. A final judgment will come after he died or after the supernatural phenomena have stopped. In the meantime, the church authorities in charge call him a man of “good reputation” and allow him to give talks and pray for healing by laying on of hands.

Secondly I found that Alan is not arrogant at all, is not after money and **lives up to what he preaches. **When organising talks for him, we travelled together with his priest and I realised how tiring this travelling etc. was. Yet despite the fatigue, Alan did never get grumpy nor negative towards people. Even when he was sick one time and people didn’t care, he patiently listened to them, putting their needs before his own. I was fed up - he wasn’t. I was impressed how he was able to still show love …

Finally, several members of my family, including myself, as well as a number of my friends, got great **blessings, conversions and healings **when attending Alan’s talks. He speaks about the sacraments, about the importance of priests, about God’s healing love and how we can become open to receive God’s gifts. I am not surprised that the catholic church is happy with alan and bishops recommend him, also many priests. It is God doing great things while Alan only gives his testimony and prays for people. I recommend Alan and his ministry because of the good fruit and because he is authentic.

My name is Sean,
I am Alan’s eldest brother and had to go to work a 16 to help mum to feed us as our father was a gambler and alcoholic, Alan was 11. For the last 41 years of marriage my wife and myself have been cathechists, bringing many to the faith. I know all about Alan’s past, including how he got thrown out of the Jesuit college we both went to. He has repeatedly said that I ‘have driven people away from the catholic faith’ while the years have shown the opposite. He insults me and my strong faith in Jesus Christ.
Question why he flies !st. Business class with his wife wherever he goes (did Mother Theresa ever do this?) Why is he currently renting an 8 bedroomed house in England for the 2 of them at over £2000 a month. Why did he have a motorbike specially shipped from England?
Why does he see me and my wife as a threat because we are getting on with spreading the faith in our own small county in England?
He has hallucinations through his type 1 diabetes and is misleading himself and others. Now that I have retired I will find the time and means to stop him before he causes any more damage to our catholic faith. GOD BLESS SEAN AMES

Reading what Alan’s oldest brother Sean wrote, I thought:

Must be difficult to be the older brother of Alan!
Scripture shows that truly it is not easy to be the older brother of The Prodigal Son.

As for the reference Sean made to Mother Teresa:
My own sister is serving the poor as a Missionary of Charity in Calcutta. The airlines used to offer Mother Teresa a free seat - she didn’t ask for it. Don’t know which Class they offered her. As for Alan, I booked several flights for him during the past 14 years - always Economy, he never wanted anything else. His attitude was modest in all things during all the evangelization trips here.

I met Alan’s spiritual director several times, and last year I also saw his archbishop when I visited my relative in Australia. Their judgment about Alan is very positive while they keep a close eye on him. And so is mine (though I’m far away, in Europe, yet meeting Alan several times a year). I have never heard Alan speak ill about his brothers, family or anyone else during all these years. I thank him for being a good example for me.

I had a look at your public profile, and I found it a bit strange that this is the only post you’ve ever made on these forums, despite joining three months ago on the 2nd September 2012.

Do you go looking for anything to do with Alan Ames?

I’ve never heard of Alan Ames to be honest, and I’m Australian. I’ll admit his own web page gives details of being involved in a motorcycle gang when younger, which possibly gives credence to your claim of a violent, alcoholic family background. Not that I think that’s necessarily against him - one of the most effective Christians in our local area was at one stage a heroin addict, mixed up in armed robberies, massage parlours and with stints in and out of prison.

Just curious as to why you joined the forum.

Yeah, this thread shows exactly what’s wrong and dangerous with these types of ‘healers’ or ministers. Controversial would be an improvement.

I’m from Australia, lived here most of my life, surprisingly never heard of this guy (although I do practice my faith more with my Croatian background, so that could just be a result of that). Always need to be careful.

What Sean (allegedly Alan’s brother) wrote is frightening but too often true. People like this going on and stemming their own following are dangerous. As Christ said, “Many will come and do good works in my name, but they will deceive you”. Too often people follow these types of people and lose sight of the actual church.

There is no denial that some people are blessed with the spiritual gift of healing. However, from my experience, these are usually ordained priests! Cause and effect theory! I can’t imagine anyone outside of the priesthood or highest order of sainthood claiming to have these gifts. It’s not something that a regular person can claim to have. And you’d think if they did truly have it, they’d be in priesthood saving the world instead of organizing shows and earning money from them.

So no, I’d say stay away from it. I definitely encourage spiritual healing, I went to a mass of it last week, but find the right place and person to do it. If not possible, then find prayer groups that pray specific prayers at specific masses for the intention of healing.

Hi,
This is Sean again (Alan’s eldest brother), I have read your various replies with interest. Know this I am a staunch catholic family man with four grown up children ( still practising in the faith) - we still pray together when we meet for various occasions, and we pray with great concern for Alan. I will not slander him, but it has now come to the time when I must engage with his spiritual advisors, and those he is misleading.
To give you some background my wife (Rosemary) and myself have been, and still are active Cathecticts (over 40 years now) and I have been serving at mass for 4 days a week for the last 8 years despite a serious illness which often cripples me. Our faith is our stronghold and it is with some dismay that I have followed my brother’s ‘ministry’. I think he believes in what he is doing but is very much misguided. I have been to several of his healing services but have yet to see a positive result. Perhaps it is his type 1 diabetes that gives him hallucinations. Study his many publishings in detail and you will find that it often strays from the teachings of Christ. Who else in the world at this time claims personal meetings with Jesus and Mary?
It is time now that I put an end to him leading so many to believe in his imaginations and false interpretations. Our God is a loving and kind eternal being who will often speak to us in our own hearts. Otherwise look to proven spiritual leaders in our faith - especially the pope who does not make claims of frequent meetings with Jesus and Our Lady. From now on I will make it my mission to put a stop to this falsehood, not just by my writings but by meeting with his so-called advisors. Trust only in Christ and his ordained ministers - I will avoid telling all I know so that it does not appear out of spite or other that I disprove Alan.
Pray for me that I might be rightly guided.
In HIS love,
Sean Ames (England 5/12/12)

Well, you seem to be fair dinkum. I’m not going to see Alan Ames anyway, simply because I’ve never heard of him, and he’s nowhere near here. I live on the eastern seaboard, the opposite side of the nation from Perth.

But it would be nice though to hear of some current bona fide Catholic faith healers from time to time, especially if they were in the local area.

I had a look at your other 25 posts. You seem to have a one track mind - they’re all the same. I think you might have been eating too many sunflowers.
