Hmmm. From the way you write I have to conclude that I am also amongst those that you consider to be “misled” by Alan Ames …

Well then, this is what Alan led me to:
  • his example made me love the Eucharist and Adoration as I had never before
  • his talks encouraged me to re-discover Confession (and frequent Confession)
  • his books helped me to really encounter the Lord Jesus Christ as our living God and Saviour
  • his gentle encouragement made me overcome my fears and go out sharing the Good News with others
Excuse me, I can’t see where Alan is “misleading” people, as you call it.
Just the opposite: Priests keep telling me about life-changing confessions after Alan’s talks, and always I see long queues of people wanting to confess, some even after 20 years or more - by God’s grace.

Seems you have a personal problem with your brother. As I said earlier, of course it is not easy to be the elder brother of the Prodigal Son. Don’t forget, Our Father in Heaven loves us all the same. 🙂 Why don’t you just speak with your brother rather than about him … And: Surely God will reward you accordingly for your 40 years of catechist service that you mentioned. Sorry to read you are seriously ill, may God’s healing love touch you. 🙂

Are you also aware that there are many other alleged “saviors”, “healers”, “prodigal sons” that are deceiving people in Christ’s name out there? Remember what Jesus himself told us, Matthew 24:5 “For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray”. This is the idea of the anti-Christ, and wouldn’t you know they’ve even predicted he’d come in the form of a very powerful, lovable, charming person.

Look, that’s not to say that it’s certainly Alan Ames or every/anyone who comes in Christ’s name, but certainly I’ve read enough controversy around him in this topic alone to know that you need to be careful, many are taken away and misled by such figures all the time, don’t be so easily taken in.

@ domiy

oh yes, i am very much aware of many so called “healers” and false prophets around.
As for Alan, he doesn’t consider himself to be a “healer” nor a prophet, i rather heard him say to someone, “i’m just a simple man trying to love God.”

I am really happy that alan ames’ archbishop did what the Church usually does in such cases: he had theologians check Alan’s writings (they found everything was in line with Church teaching), he chose a priest to be Alan’s spiritual director, and finally the bishop forwarded rules regarding Alan’s talks. I received letters from his bishop where he said Alan has a good reputation and has his permission to give talks etc.

So, here is a man, Alan, trying to share God’s love and graces with others, doing so in full obedience to his superiors within the Roman Catholic Church. And this is nothing new, it’s been going on for at least 17 years now under the scrutiny of the Roman Catholic Church, with overwhelming good fruits, by God’s grace (see Matthew 7:17+18; Acts 5:34ff).

Alan Ames has teachings that contradict Church teaching. He claims that after dying, being judged by God, and being condemned to Hell, a soul can still be saved and go to Heaven, if someone prays for that soul. He claims that all killing is a mortal sin without exception, even just war, death penalty, self-defense. These claims by Alan Ames are clearly contrary to the definitive teachings of the Magisterium on salvation and on ethics.

Hi,
I am his eldest brother Sean of whom he is (I know not why) super-critical. It has taken me 40 years to speak out - but trust me, he is not all you think and lives a very good life out of his earnings from what he calls his ‘ministry’. There is much to question - all I will do is warn you that all is not as it seems and I want to avoid sounding bitter or twisted. He has done enough of that for both of us. I, and my wife and 4 grown children (+G’children) just want to get on living and spreading the faith. Rosemary and me have already spent over 40 years as certified Catechists and have the joy of having quietly brought many to the true faith. Many religious are amongst our friends, and I was Chosen by a Cardinal to lead the Catechist training programme for the diocese of Westminster (London).
Please do not trust all those you seem to think carry the latest news. Christ warns against this. Alan’s many statements (revelations?) contradict the BASIC teachings of the mainstream church.
I have (an continue to be) seriously ill, living on morphine from day to day. Before this brings my life to an end ( I hope for another 5 years of useful life)) I wish to bring Alan’s chosen means of income (if that is what it is) to an end as I believe he may be mentally distracted or disturbed through his type 1 diabetes. I may be wrong. If so, God please forgive me, but I have observed (and even at times, supported) Alan’s teachings and healing ceremonies, and reached the conclusion that he is doing spiritual harm. Should I be well enough next year I will visit the Bishop of Pert (WA) to enlighten him. In the meantime, I do not think Alan thinks he is doing wrong - but needs spiritual help. Who has he healed?
Please pray for him (and me) that we may bring Christ’s true message to the world. Test everything that you are told with the Catholic Bible and the latest version (1999) of the Bible. Talk to your confessors- they are there to help.
Spread my worries and pray. pray, pray for our Ames family which has many serious problems at this time - which may even have been sent to test Alan’s faith, and mine.

GOD BLESS SEAN

Hello Mr Conte, it seems you are Mr. Ron Conte jr. who is running the website “catholicplanet”. You claim to know about heresies in Alan’s writings, but you haven’t given any quotes (of course not, it’s nowhere in Alan’s writings). All of Alan’s writings have been checked by his archbishop and/or those priests/theologians the archbishop asked to do so, they say it’s all in line with the Church’s teachings. 🙂

Looking you up on the internet I came across www.catholicplanetfalsehoods.com See the excerpt below. Alan Ames is 100% in line with Catholic teaching, but I wonder if you are, too? Doesn’t sound like that - here’s the quotes:

Mr. Conte seems to have a disregard for canon law and church authority for he has published a catechism without ecclesiastical approval. He has self–published, ‘The Catechism of Catholic ethics’, which is a work of Roman Catholic moral theology without any imprimatur or nihil obstat. Ignoring what Canon law states;

Can.827:1 Without prejudice to the provisions of can.775:2 the publication of catechisms pertaining to catechetical formation, as well as their translations, requires the approval of the local ordinary. (Code of Canon Law )

(Mr. Conte writes: ) ‘Mary is like Christ in all things except His Divinity. Therefore, Mary had a virgin conception and a virgin birth, similar to Christ’s virgin conception and virgin birth’.

Writings which include the miraculous conception of Mary and to which Mr. Conte subscribes to include The Protoevangelium of James were declared heretical by Pope St. Gelasius 1 (492-496). However, Mr. Conte declares that it is not everything in these writings that are heretical - but the whole document was condemned as heretical by a Pope. Also in 1677 the Holy See condemned the error of Imperial who taught that St. Anne in the conception and birth of Mary remained virgin (Pope Benedict 14th).

Obviously Mr. Conte thinks the Popes are wrong.

He also describes various forms of Limbo … but the Church now says Limbo does not exist. The reassessment and removal of Limbo began under the late John Paul II. He was supported by the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who is now Pope Benedict 16th and who in 2007 reversed the teaching on Limbo.

However, Mr. Conte disagrees and states; ‘Limbo does exist as an upper level of Purgatory, that is, as a last step before entering Heaven, a step during which the final preparations for Heaven are completed, not in the form of suffering for sin, but of gaining the knowledge and understanding needed to make that soul fit for Heaven.’

Mr. Conte, I’m sorry but I trust the discernment of Alan Ames’ bishop more than yours 😦

… and here is another excerpt from www.catholicplanetfalsehoods.com showing that Mr. Ron Conte’s predictions cannot and should not be trusted either :nope:

PREDICTIONS

Mr. Conte has made several predictions that never came true. Here are some:

He had a prediction of Hilary Clinton winning the last presidential election, which he later took down when she did not.

He has predicted a warning tied to the Garbandal messages that would with a 100% certainty would happen in 2008. When that did not happen a new prediction 100% certain for 2009. When that did not happen a new prediction for 2010, which did not happen.

Predictions for 2010

April 2nd, Good Friday, the Warning (Day of Repentance)
April 4th, Easter Sunday, the Day of Consolation

Pope Benedict XVI suggests three places of worship in Jerusalem, for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam (a Temple, a Basilica, a mosque).

May 13th, Ascension Thursday, the Miracle
May 13th - Pope John Paul II canonized; perhaps also Pope Pius XII will be canonized on the same day. (…)

At some point after the Miracle, and probably before the end of 2010, Pope Benedict XVI dies.

The next Pope is the one St. Malachy called ‘Peter the Roman’. But he does NOT take the name Pope Peter II. I believe that this Pope will be Cardinal Arinze and that he will take the name Pope Pius XIII. He will die a martyr in late 2012 or early 2013.

World War III begins in 2010, and lasts throughout most of the 2010’s.
I believe that this war begins with an attack on New York City; a nuclear bomb (not a missile; not a dirty bomb) sent by the Arab/Muslim nations of the Middle East and northern Africa.

Roman Catholic theologian

Conclusion: Better trust the Magisterium of the Church, because theologians can err …

Alan Ames has unapproved claims of private revelations. It is contrary to the group rules to promote any unapproved private revelation.

I have been to two healing masses with Alan Ames over the past two years with Alan Ames. I know people that have experienced personal healings and healings of loved ones as a result of God working through Alan. My good friend’s 8 year old daughter has been suffering from extreme eczema since she was 6 weeks old. Her legs were kept wrapped and her skin was always bleeding and her skin broke out if ANYTHING was put on it. She has taken very strong medicines to try and help her to no avail. No doctor was able to help her. Within a week, of attending the healing mass and being prayed over by Alan, her daughter’s skin was completely healed. Her skin was as soft as baby’s skin and she had no reaction to anything that was used on her skin. This was the first summer she was able to swim because the chlorine had affected her skin so harshly before. God healed her and Alan Ames was the instrument he used to do so. This is just one of the healings that I know of personally, some occurred from Alan praying over a picture of a loved one. He was approved by the Cardinal of our area and I trust him completely.

This is just an opinion.

If the local bishop says ok, and the other authorities in the church say nothing, then that is all that is needed to go if one wishes, tho this is not to say one has to go.

If I had a sick loved one, I would probaby go for their sake since it is not against the church.

That is just one opinion, take or leave it.

I am confused as to why my Church would sponsor him as well. Here is what I found:

catholicplanet.com/apparitions/false101.htm
That website has already been cited on this thread as a poor source. Just because the website says “Catholic” does not mean that it is speaking all of the truth. If the bishops allow Alan to come to the churches, that holds more weight than a website. He has had 1000’s of healing documented by his bishop…if your church is sponsoring him you should try to go. Everything is centered around the mass, eucharist adoration and confession…the healing sacraments.

Yeah, this thread shows exactly what’s wrong and dangerous with these types of ‘healers’ or ministers. Controversial would be an improvement.

I’m from Australia, lived here most of my life, surprisingly never heard of this guy (although I do practice my faith more with my Croatian background, so that could just be a result of that). Always need to be careful.

What Sean (allegedly Alan’s brother) wrote is frightening but too often true. People like this going on and stemming their own following are dangerous. As Christ said, “Many will come and do good works in my name, but they will deceive you”. Too often people follow these types of people and lose sight of the actual church.

There is no denial that some people are blessed with the spiritual gift of healing. However, from my experience, these are usually ordained priests! Cause and effect theory! I can’t imagine anyone outside of the priesthood or highest order of sainthood claiming to have these gifts. It’s not something that a regular person can claim to have. And you’d think if they did truly have it, they’d be in priesthood saving the world instead of organizing shows and earning money from them.

So no, I’d say stay away from it. I definitely encourage spiritual healing, I went to a mass of it last week, but find the right place and person to do it. If not possible, then find prayer groups that pray specific prayers at specific masses for the intention of healing.
Have you ever heard of Father Larry Richards? He puts out CDs and has a ministry called The Reason for Our Hope Foundation. He is a priest who thought as you did…went to a healing/charismatic mass as a seminarian and didn’t go up to be prayed over by the layman who had the gift of healing because he thought “he had already been prayed over by the best of the priests” and what could this layman do? Well, he got cornered into going up to the man and the man barely touched him and down he went. He then got up and the man began to touch him again and he went down again. His pride got in the way of the Holy Spirit…and the Holy Spirit had the last word! He has a totally different attitude now…he will take everything the Holy Spirit wants to give him…from a man or a priest!

Alan Ames works under his bishop and his visit is centered around the mass, eucharist adoration and confession. He tells his story after mass and the healing service is done during eucharistic adoration on the altar and the rosary is said at the same time by all who are waiting and confession is also offered. If our Cardinal allows him to come to the churches, then that means there is nothing conflicting with Church doctrine or in his personal behavior that would show him to be fraudulent.

Anyone have direct experience with Alan Ames?

alanames.org/en/alans-story.htm

He’s coming to my parish and I have to admit, it seems a bit hokey, sorta like the guys on TV touching people and knocking them down and such.

But my eyes have been bothering me more lately, and I would be awsome if this was for real.

Thoughts?

-Tim-
I have met Alan Ames before. All I can say is that there is something special about him. Not to sound weird or anything, but he knows things. The last time I saw him was in St. Michael, MN. I had a lot on my mind and heart. I was feeling worried about my future, I wan’t sure where God was calling me. After the service, I approached him. I didn’t know what I was going to say to him, I just wanted to… say, something anyway. 🤷
When I got to him, he looked at me and said, “Don’t worry”. I hadn’t even introduced myself! And it’s not as if I looked worried. I’m an actor, I wanted everyone to think I was fine, so that’s how I looked.
I must have given him a funny look or something, because he gave a little laugh and said, “No, really, I know. Just, don’t worry.”

The thing about mystics and charismatic experiences is you cant take other people’s word for it. It’s something you have to experience yourself and judge accoring your personal faith in God. If it’s from the Spirit, you’ll know. You’ll be changed! You just have to trust that God is leading you. If it’s not of the Spirit, well, you’ll know. Just remember that God is bigger than all of us. You can’t put your faith in things of this world.

I’m looking forward to seeing Alan Ames tomorrow. 🙂 Don’t be afraid of anything this world throws at you!

The first time I met Alan was around 13th May, 2000.
I had to translate his talks into German.

Over the past 14 years I have grown to know him better.
It is obvious that God uses Alan to bring people to the sacraments.
In the meantime I have met so many who reported healings by God through Alan.
Alan always remained 100% obedient to the Catholic Church.
He is a happy person and more prayerful than anyone else I know.
His spiritual director recommended him, and so did his bishop. 🙂

It is true that Alan knows things that he couldn’t possibly know.
Alan has several gifts of the Holy Spirit. The gift of knowledge is one of them.

Here is what I was told by those who experienced it:
A priest once came to a talk and then came up to be prayed over by Alan.
The priest didn’t wear anything indicating he was a priest.
When Alan prayed over him, he knew it was a priest and asked the priest’s blessing.

Another priest’s housekeeper came up for prayers and her intention was:
“Lord, let me stand in proxy for the children in the world, they need You so!”
Alan prayed over her and walked over to the next person, but then he came back.
He prayed over her again, saying “for the children in the world.”
How did he know? She had not uttered a word, her intention was only in her heart.

I think God gives Alan all those gifts because he completely relies on God.
Alan seems to draw everything from daily Eucharist and frequent confession.
And the good news is: So can we … God’s love is there for us all. That’s Alan’s message.

His messages teach heresy, specifically:

Heretical teaching: the messages claim that after dying, being judged by God, and being condemned to Hell, a soul can still be saved and go to Heaven, if someone prays for that soul.

Heretical teaching: the messages claim that all killing is a mortal sin without exception, even just war, death penalty, self-defense.

As for reliable sources, why should faithful Catholics, who believe what the Church teaches and who reject all heresy, be lead astray by unknown persons posting under pseudonyms? The Church’s teaching on these points is clear, reliable, and required belief. It is Alan Ames versus the Magisterium. Choose.

Mr. Conte, would you please let me know who is your bishop and what diocese you are in?
Thanks a lot.

👍

It seems people can take words and lines out of context to suit self and ad or subtract words as they please. I suggest people read the full messages and get the full explanation not a distorted and manipulated understanding of them.

In reply to the so called heresies which have never been called that by the church;

Conte claims:
Heretical teaching:
the messages claim that after dying, being judged by God, and being condemned to hell, a soul can still be saved and go to Heaven, if someone prays for that soul.

The message does not say that a soul can be saved (even though I personally in God’s unfathomable love hope this is possible) it says you should pray to God for them to be saved…it asks how can God not listen to prayers of love for He is the God of love? it does not state He does save them but that you should ask … It also says that this is to help people forgive even the worst sinner as we are meant to.

Heretical teaching: the messages claim that all killing is a mortal sin without exception, even just war, death penalty, self-defense.

The message states if you kill another knowingly/intentionally you sin … killing that was not meant to happen or was an accident is not sinful. It never mentions the word ‘Mortal’
