The Catholic Labor Network hopes to be a place for those Catholics, lay, religious and clergy, who are active in their churches and in unions to learn about their Church’s teachings as regards to labor issues, pray for those who are working for economic justice and share information about events and struggles that may be taking place in their area.

Sounds interesting, but they seem very low budget. Does anyone know about any specific involvement or anything notable they have done recently?

Thanks

The org is clearly run by labor union organizers.

The President of Catholic Labor Network, Tiffany Heath, has an AFL-CIO email address. The Vice President of the organization, Tim Beaty, has a an email address with the Teamsters union. The organization’s secretary, Phillip Tabbita, has an email address with the United Postal Worker’s union. Etc.

The whole thing reminds me of the overtly communist Catholic Workers Movement.

overtly communist Catholic Workers Movement.

While I understand that Catholic Worker houses often have a left of center perspective, labeling the entire movement as “communist” seems unfounded. Why do you believe it to be so?

As for the Catholic Labor Network, I have never heard of it. Perhaps it is trying to re-invigorate the Catholic - Labor connection, which the Catholic Worker movement has downplayed in recent decades? However, I don’t know if it is anything other than a paper organization, with a website and emails and online articles.

Are there any other Catholic Labor organizations that might be better/more established?
