Hi!
Does anyone have suggestions of a great Catholic grade school Religion curriculum that integrates lots of scripture and church history for grades K-8?
Thanks for any suggestions!
God bless,
🙂

I’m a homeschooling mom and use Mother of Divine Grace homeschooling curriculum for most subjects. My favorite Catholic religious education curriculum is the Faith in Life Series, published by Catholics United for the Faith and available at Ignatius Press. Very orthodox! My :twocents:, for what it’s worth.

The Seton Home Study School. It is the course I used with my son when I home schooled him. I cannot not say enough good things about them. They have reprinted the Faith and Freedom series of books from my grade school days. They have also published many texts of their own. It is a very conservative and faithful to the Pope.

They were always available to offer help via the telephone or email. They also have an excellent monthly newsletter . It is a K - 12 program. My son was enrolled from 1st through 8th grades, and now he is heading off for college. I just cannot say enough good things about their program. In fact, my daughter is now looking into homeschooling with Seton for her children.

Their main phone number is : (540) 636-9990 email: www.setonhome.com

Good luck!🙂

Do you think Seaton would work for a grade school? We have two classes of each grade and cost is an issue. Let me know what you think :o)
Thank you and God bless!

Thank you! I will check out the Faith in Life Series as well!
God bless,

PS If you could keep it in prayer for us to implement something like this in our local Catholic school I would much appreciate it!

I would check it out. I was able to purchase just a single course (geometry) for my older daughter. They may be able to give you a group rate. I would check it out.

Good luck!

Our diocese, Wichita, KS wrote their own because they wanted something with more meat. You could contact our education office through their website www.cdowks.org I am pretty sure they sell it to other schools.

Image of God (published by Ignatius Press, just like the Faith and Life series) is also good. Similar scope and sequence, similar level of information (from what I’ve seen and heard of it), just different in the method of presentation.

I’ve used Faith and Life (F&L) for 1st and 2nd grade, and Image of God (IOG) for K and 1. Based on that, these are the obvious differences:

F&L has re-usable student textbooks with beautiful artwork, consumable activity books (busy work), and a really large teacher’s manual for each level. IOG doesn’t have student textbooks, just consumable workbooks (or work-texts), and then a smaller teacher’s book that guides the discussion.

In F&L, the main points are in the student text, and the teacher’s manual is used to expand on them. In IOG, the main points are made in the discussions (led by the teacher’s book), and the workbook is used to expand on them.

I like that each unit in F&L has a chapter of reading for the kids, and that the kids have something written down in their hands that explains the main points of the lessons. The Teacher’s manual is chock full of information and ideas. Too much, perhaps for a weekly religion class, but probably wonderful for a daily class. The teacher’s manual gives tons of information, but you will have to do some work ahead of time to put it all together and decide how to present it.

I like the way the Image of God teacher’s books present the information - they set up very clear explanations and discussions to have with the students. There is less total information in these manuals than in the F&L, but If you are only using this for Sunday school, it may be just the right amount. You’ll still have to look over the books ahead of time, but won’t have to spend as much time weeding out extra activities that you would in F&L (because of the sheer volume).

I think Ignatius Press will send out samples if you want to compare them.

Faith and Life also has scaled down lesson plans meant just for the once-a-week class, they are available on line.
