It just seems like commonsense that there would be - somewhere - a quarterly magazine or yearly book that puts every days prayers from the entire Liturgy of the Hours at your fingertips to sidestep the hassle of the 4-volume set. It’s hard to imagine that some company hasn’t thought of that, yet. If anyone knows of something like that (like the Magnificat, only with the official translations and every hour of the entire office) could you let me know? It would be cool if liturgyhours.org/ put out a series of books like that. Universalis has a downloadable program but they don’t use the official translations…:confused:

Magnificat immediately comes to mind.

(Filipinos: you may want to check out Pandasal, which contains the yearly Mass readings and full texts of Morning and Evening Prayer for the day. Available at your nearest St. Pauls outlet).

However, I’m not too certain about the four-volume being a hassle. A strategic placing of the ribbons before we begin takes much of the pain away from flipping between propers. I even use permanent bookmarks to mark Sunday Week I, the hymns for Night Prayer, the Marian Antiphons, and use an additional one for the Commons (there are only five supplied ribbons).

Besides, even the mere experience of using a real liturgical book, the illustrations, the vinyl or leather covers, and the red instructions (that’s why they’re called rubrics after all) all serve to enhance the prayer time. But then, that’s just me; others undoubtedly have their preferences. But I would not for the world give up using the 4-volume or Christian Prayer.

Hmm…well, that must be because you have mastered the mysterious, arcane, art of the Liturgy of the Hours. It requires a mastery of both the liturgical calendar and how it syncs up with the hours…it is all a foreign language to me. I do not have the 4-volume set, just the Christian Prayer. And even with the St. Joseph guide, I can’t understand which prayers I’m supposed to pray!!! Sometimes there are a bunch of pages in parenthesis…and I have no idea how the office of readings or the selection of hymns is supposed to work…
::sigh::
