Anyone know of Dr. James White?

I have a fundamentalist friend at work who won’t read anything by Scott Hahn, but he continually praises the virtues of James White, a Protestant apologist who runs this website.

Can anyone provide the Cliff Notes about this man, his theology, and his organization?

I’m not familiar with him but from a browsing of his site, I think I’d lump him with the other non-Catholic Christian Apologists:
  1. Some good helps for general Christian apologetics, and
  2. Some good stuff to read to prepare yourself to answer tougher questions, like here on his Catholic page:

That page would be a good page of subjects for conversation with your friend.

He is a reformed baptist and engages in quite a bit of apologetics work. You can go to his website and purchase a number of debates between James and varioius catholic apologists such as; Robert Sungenis, Mitch Pacwa, Pat Madrid, Gary Matatics, Stravinskas, etc.

I’m waiting for that guy to win a debate before I buy them.😃

Good thing, I won’t have to follow up on that promise. Sure must be tough trying to debate against the True Church of Christ.

HAHA! Are you being SERIOUS??

The guy has some convincing arguments…IF (and that’s a BIG “if”) he didn’t distort facts and history. To me, James White is like the boy that cried “wolf.” After you’ve seen him distort the truth so many times, I no longer take him serious anymore.

This is just a scratch.

If you haven’t heard him debate, how will you know whether or not he won a debate?

As far as I know, James has never debated anyone from the “True Church of Christ”. He usually sticks to debating catholics, mormons, JW’s, and muslims.

A while ago I was dating a good friend of the family’s (White’s)…but let’s just say that me being Catholic didn’t fair too well. 😛

Seeing how both his sister and I converted to Catholicism, I figured it was only a matter of time before my “ex” would follow suit…I was wrong, it was like talking to a brick wall. No reasoning abilities whatsoever. Oh well. 😃

So you dated someone for awhile who had no reasoning abilities? Why would you date someone who isn’t capable of reasoning?

Or, are you saying that she had no reasoning capabilities simply because she didn’t decide to convert?

Why don’t you get off it with the snide remarks…

No one here cares one way or the other what White says or likes…he’s just another fount of anti-Catholic propaganda.

I’ve read some of his stuff and he’s unconvincing, especially to someone (like me) who has actually looked into the facts of what the Catholic Church teaches.

He’s been refuted again and again. If you think he’s all great and stuff, good for you, but don’t expect knowledgeable Catholics to hold him in any great esteem.

No, she was very intelligent until it came to talk about the faith, then it was like a barrier sealed off her brain, lol. Most of the time she just would say “I don’t want to talk about it…” but yet this was a wedge between us that needed to be discussed. Anyhow, the discussion ended up being between her father and I (her father was the friend of James) and he wasn’t much better…he wouldn’t answer any of my questions, in fact in one of our conversations I asked him half a dozen times why he believed the Bible was the inspired Word of God, but he acted like he never even heard the question. It was a very one-sided “conversation”.

I remember James White as being a man easily refuted. I studied his works when converting in 1999 and found everything he said easily refuted by Karl Keating in his Catholicsim and Fundamentalism.

I imagine his site is more polished now but also Karl has written more books since. I’m sure its all covered!

The only thing that I think James White deserves credit for is being a somewhat talented debator. But that’s about it.

Why would anyone need to listen to this mere “man” debate? Christ is at the head of the Catholic Church. If this “White guy” is the head of your faith, good luck with that.

You forgot to add fundies and evangelicals to your list of “believers of the traditions of man”🙂
