This is me being lazy. I am running a prayer sesh in a few weeks at my youth group and decided to make the theme Humility. Since I figure that there are probably plenty of you who have read heaps of good stuff on the subject, maybe you could post it here for me so I don’t have to go trawling through the Internet and the Bible looking for it myself?
Even posting stuff like the Last Supper and “His state was divine, but Christ did not cling to His equality with God…” would be appreciated here as I don’t know the references or the exact text off by heart.

How about the Litany of Humility? Very moving, very powerful.

What is the Litany of Humility? If it is short, can you please post it in this thread? If not, can you please post a link to it?

The Beatitudes - ah, at least I know them. Good one! Anyone know the reference?

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.

Fromthe desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved…Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others…Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated …Deliver me, Jesus.
Fromthe fear of being despised…Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged …Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected …Deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I, **Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
**That others may be esteemed more than I …Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease …Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside …Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed …Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything…Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should…Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

The classical pasage for humility is ‘the washing of the feet’ of Jesus before last supper.
Could be interesting to make youngsters inacting the passage with real water.
God bless

Psalm 131: [0] A Song of Ascents. Of David.
[1] O LORD, my heart is not lifted up,
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
[2] But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a child quieted at its mother’s breast;
like a child that is quieted is my soul.
[3] O Israel, hope in the LORD
from this time forth and for evermore.

Matt.11 [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Also, go to this site: Revised Standard Bible Index and search under: meek, humble, humility, gentleness, etc.

For good writings on humility, check out St. Francis de Sales, St. Josemaria Escriva, and St. Therese of Lisieux. You could also look up stuff on compunction, which is when we recognize our worthlessness and yet realize the Lord’s goodness and how we relate to it, IIUC. Hope that helped.
