Anyone Know Their Pope History Well?

Last 500 years?

Pretty much the grandaddy of all bad Popes (considered so at the time and since), Alexander VI, was Pope 1492-1503.

He had numerous mistresses and illegitimate children, one of whom he made a Cardinal, was believed to have basically bought the Papacy by bribing the cardinal electors, and was rumoured to have not been above a spot of murder.

You know, I can see why many protestants like to throw bad popes in our face. I think it would scandalize me a bit. Well, it stiil does, today, I think, a little bit.

Although, it seems in many matters of history, though I’m one of these least history informed or minded people here, it seems that the exact truth can be difficult to get at 500 years later. Some things we think are true may be not quite accurate. Yet they may generally be held by a great many people to have been so.
