– If such atheists loved their neighbors, fed the hungry, clothed the naked, visited the sick etc., etc. – and kept their atheism to themselves – would they be eligible for a St. Thomas entrance grant (and a DELIGHTFUL surprise) per Matthew 25:34 ff
Many saints have had their “dark night of the soul” and so, may have been technically atheist for a while.
It’s a question I have … not a conviction … and a HOPE that perhaps some of our theologically challenged brethren (and sistren

) may “make it” via the mercy of God
and their semi-consciously but fruitfully saying YES to the Holy Spirit’s promptings - enough to be saved in the end.
Of course by the time they’d ENTER heaven … such wouldn’t be atheists anymore … but rather … happy ex-atheists (with a bit of embarrassment mixed in perhaps)?
Personally, I can wait for the Judgement Day. God has that handled, and it’s not yet.
And perhaps I’ll be more ready than I am now. :coolinoff:

Warning: I don’t mean for this to be a suggested path one might take. Like planning to make a deathbed conversion … the intellectual consideration of the possibility might be deadly if adopted for a spiritual plan of action. And would reveal a serious lack of proper deference and love for the Lord.
