I just picked up a booklet entitled “The Mass of Vatican II” put out by Ignatuis Press. It’s the order of the Mass with latin in one column and english in the other. Here’s my confusion. It says it “contains the Novus Ordo Missae as promulgated by Pope Paul VI - but in the form clearly envisioned by the Fathers of the Council in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy.”
I didn’t know the NO was celebrated in Latin. Will this booklet get me through Mass? Or is the Extraordinary Form different than this one?

The Mass is should be in Latin and certain parts in the vernacular. This is what Vatican II specified.
There are a few parishes that actually do the Mass the way it should be done as specified in the Documents of Vatican II

Most parishes have ignored Vatican II and done their own thing. If you look at how the Pope celebrates Mass, you will see a much more faithful interpretation of Vatican II.

This booklet will get you through Mass and it will be more in line the more faithful your parish is.

The Extraordinary Form, (Gregorian) is different and you would need a different booklet or Missal.

Our area only offers the EF once a month. I’ve been to one, and was lost. Everyone else had little red booklets so they could follow along. I’m assuming this parish is celebrating the EF, since that’s the only Mass authorized. I’m trying to avoid spending the money for the Roman Missal, since I’m not sure yet if I will continue to attend the EF. I’ll take the booklet I have this Sunday and see how closely it follows. If it’s way off, what do you suggest? Thanks

It will be way off.

If everyone has red booklets that means the parish probably supplies it- next time you go tap someone on the shoulder and ask where they got theirs.

Most of the people there were members of Una Voce, who supplied them to it’s members. I’m not going near that group for reasons I won’t go into here. I believe Leaflet Missal has the same booklet they had on it’s website. I guess I’ll order it from them. Thanks

Una Voce is in full communion with Rome, and does NOT support those who are not. The organization exists with Pope BXVI’s blessing.👍

If you are interested in a 1962 Missal, pm me and I will give you a link to a site which has the lowest price to be found anywhere. 39.00

I’d suggest following along using the rubrics only the first few times. Watching the priest - his gestures, which side of the altar he is on, and so forth, will tell you what part of the Mass is taking place.

The little red booklets are fine for learning the Mass, but a missal is needed for the propers. In the mean time, here is a site where you can find each day’s propers. 🙂

**What language did you think the NO was originally promuglatted in?

I’ve seen it celebrated in Latin.**
