I just bought some…now, it has a definite smell. I want to say stink but I’m just not sure if this is how it is supposed to be or if there is something wrong with it. So, for those of you who use it, opinions?

Hm…I use Dr. Bronners. I have unscented, lavender, and spearmint. Never noticed anything funky. I had the Trader Joe’s brand too and I don’t recall any odd smell…

great, so i got a rotten one:rolleyes:😛

Castille is a soap where the fat is olive oil - I have made my own castille soaps and yes, homemade did have a distinctive odor - not good but not bad either. Some essential oils may have changed that but my goal at the time was to get a soap with nothing in it but, well, the main ingredients (water, lye and olive oil). I did not make it into liquid soap though.

If it does have an odor it should smell like olive oil (again, not good but not bad either). I know you have EVOO in your house so compare the two :D.

Of course, any oils can go rancid so if it is really funky that is more likely what has happened but like I said if is just an unusual odor, neither good nor bad then it should be okay.

used to use it all the time, it usually just has a neutral generic soap smell, almost no odor at all. it is oil based, and possible, esp. if from a “natural” source, that oil went rancid before soap was made if it smells rancid. toss it or try to get a refund

yup, had my mom smell it…rancid. That’s what I thought, but wanted to make sure I wasn’t just being to sensitive. Poor dog, I used it to wash his face, lol:blush:

We use Dr Bronner’s too, Malia, and there is no smell.

Kinda grosses me out knowing it can go rancid!!!

We use the Dr Bronner’s peppermint. I love the way it smells!
