**My reversion began by reading ancient church documents just to hang onto my Christian faith once I was hit by the movie the Da Vinci Code. I didn’t realize that all of those ancient documents existed until the movie came out. The local Mega Non-Denominational Bible Church along with other faiths put on a series to refute the Da Vinci Code for Christians to show that the faith was in fact defensible. But how…I kept asking "how do we know how the books of the bible are really inspired of God. I played mental games if we got rid of all of the books except those that actually knew Christ while he was alive. The book of Revelations is just crazy and John must have been experiencing some kind of mental illness. etc. etc. **
My faith believed in adult baptism for the forgiveness of sins…something I’ve never really refuted, but kicked around at the new mega non-denomination because they claimed it wasn’t necessary for salvation. My entire family scripturally had major issues with this teaching and new it was justt a matter of time before we found a true church home, but in the mean time we had to practice Christianity with our children so that they learn about Jesus. That’s a story in and of itself.
**As I read Clement of Rome and Ignatius of Antioch I wondered how such men could go apostate so early having studied immediately under or heard directly the teachings of the first apostles. It just didn’t make sense. I believed that their is only one church and that church is the church Christ founded. **
Church authority was an issue. If elders and deacons are scriptural and we are to be under the care of the elders then there is an authority that obedience will determine whether or not we are right with God by being submissive to them. This just opened a can of worms for me and I kept asking many questions tthat were never addressed, skipped over, or inconsistently or incompletely dealt with properly. My only agenda was to know the truth, as I still just want to know the truth. It wasn’t until I started looking at the idea of where the bible came from that I stumbled into…really, where did this collection of manuscripts get put together and who got to chose and why.
I read the reasons from a Catholic perspective and as supicious as I was it did make some sense. But when I read and listened to the non-Catholics give an account, some of them overlapped with Catholicism. Those that ignored the historical account just seemed more mistical that the actual Catholic Church. This was the solvent that disolved my many years of blind trust in bible only. The examples of the many people around me in my non-Catholic faith just deeply disturbed me. They didn’t seem to understand the concept of being truly transformed in all things. I found many inconsistencies in their public and private lives. Behind the scenes they would say things that would get them in trouble or fired if the elders found out. We’re talking about preachers. That was one of the accusations they madeabout Catholicism.
What happened to annointing of the sick? What happened to the Holy Spirit guiding us…** What happened to the gifts of the Spirit? Thesewere only…**
**Long story short…ourtelevisiongot stuck ormixed up with EWTN. That’s when I heard Scott Hahn and discovered The Journey Home. I loved to listen to theology because I used to be a seminarian and always wanted to be a priest or a preacher you might say. But deep down inside something just wasn’t right with my solo scriptura faith they convinced me was necessary for salvation. Too much to get into. **
**As I heard more about the Lamb’s Supper I realized that it all made sense now, at least the Mass. aND THEN I discovered all of these Protestant Ministers that had converted to Catholicism… WHAT!!! They were educated, well versed in scripture and bible history…or that is what is portrayed, until they discover the many holes in their faith and ended up learning more about the church fathers and the ancient beleifs of the church evident in those writings. They came to realize the problems of not having a central authority. The list just grows by leaps and bounds. **
So if you are sincere about knowing truth, have you watched EWTN and the Journey Home… See The Comming Home Network.
