My father’s ancestors moved out here when it was still called “Rupert’s Land” - they were Scottish and Irish. I live four blocks away from the original homestead (which is currently owned by an oil company, as it turns out - there is a gas station on the land).

My mother came from the United States. She has Dutch, English, and German ancestry going way back, but when asked where her ancestors came from, she will always say “Texas” because she figures they lived in Texas for more generations than any of them had ever lived in Germany, England, or Holland before that - otherwise, she says, we are probably Romans, or whoever it was that settled northern Europe back in the day. 😛

I guess that makes me Scottish, Irish, and Texan. 🙂

Hello! 😃

Its really quite fun reading about every poster’s ancestry here. It was somewhat like learning a little bit about history too.

Its amazing how many people here are a mixture of many cultures–especially those from the United States, from which I got many replies to my post–I never realized how diverse their culture was.

All the replies were interesting. Thanks! 🙂

There you have the US. 😛 A mosaic is a better word for it than a melting pot, I think. 😃

Interesting combination of ancestors. 🙂

Cherokee is American Indian right?
Yes. There are many different Indian tribes. The Cherokee originally lived in the area where North Carolina is now. They were bison hunters.

Today, many Cherokee work in the building construction industry, and are famous for their ability to climb very high buildings without the need of ropes or other safety gear. They can walk along construction beams high in the air with the same ease that you or I would walk along the sidewalk.

Where I live, there are five main tribes of Blackfoot Indians. They’re called “Blackfoot” because they were nomadic - they ranged from the Northwest Territories in the summer time all the way down probably to California in the winter time (since they are also related to some tribes that currently live in southern California) - and whenever they left a campsite, they would step on the places where they had set campfires to make sure they were cold. The ashes caused their feet to turn black, and so when the first Europeans saw them, they called them “Blackfooted Indians” which later got shorted to “Blackfoot.”

Each of the five tribes of the Blackfoot people has its own name, its own lands, and its own customs. Siksika, Piikani (Peigan), Kainaiwa (Blood), Tsuu T’ina (Sarcee), and the Stoney (Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley/Goodstoney).

Our relationship with the local Indians is very important to us.

Personally 3/4 Croatian Catholic and 1/4 Serbian Orthodox.

In the immediate family, however, we’ve got Romanian via Canada, German Lutheran, English and Irish Australian.

I’m mainly Prussian, but in being so and keeping my family to the standards set for us, we are also Russian, French, English, Dutch, and Italian. However we are proudly Prussian although most people go were the heck is that.
