Hi.

I could probably use some advise on how to deal with scrouplosity. I know the best way to approach scrouplosity is to talk with a priest, but I will prefer not to do so. I hope to get some advise anyway.

In advance, thank you all for taking your time.

Talking to a priest is the best thing you can do. No one here can answer for him.

Yes, you need to talk to your Priest.

Don’t let CAF or any other internet fora take the place of proper offline help, with people who are trained to advise you. Don’t let CAF become your crutch. You will never rid yourself of your scruples if you do.

@edward_george1 For me, I’m a teen and I’m sort of embarrassed of the scrouplosity. From time to time my mother seems to worry about how often I attend Confession, even if it would be two weeks between each time.

I don’t even know if my family would like for me to talk with a priest by myself after all of these scandals. In my family only my mother, my brother and myself are Catholics. And I most definitly wouldn’t consider bringing someone with me to do so.

I suppose my parish priest has an idea that this is something I struggle with since I at most times go to confession with him.

As a minor, you must talk to your parents. You also must talk to a priest.

We cannot provide you with the help you need.

If you make an appointment to talk to your priest in his office during business hours when there are people around, the bit about the scandals shouldn’t matter in the least. We do think about these kinds of things, being accountable and responsible, you know.

You shouldn’t be asking for advice from unqualified strangers on the internet. Your mom might be right to be concerned if you’re going to confession with great frequency. Talk to your priest. See if a family member will go with you, even if they sit outside.

Thank you for the advise, Father.
My issue on this is that I’m sort of embarrassed of the scrouplousity. That is probably why I’m seeking guidance online. I know you priests most likely have heard it before and all of that, but still.

Just like many people would prefer not to go to the doctor when they are sick and just live with the sickness.

Scruples are a spiritual sickness, and the priest is the doctor. Go talk to your priest.

I 100% agree with Lou2U – absolutely talk to a priest. Scrupulosity can have a variety of causes, and a priest can help you discern whether the problem is spiritual, psychological, or even catechetical. Once you’ve had a priest or spiritual director help you explore those possibilities based on actual conversations with you, you can decide better what the next steps should be.
