Christ is Risen!

Okay in the west we’re actually in the Easter Season. Is Friday still penitential during the first week of the Easter Season when are Lord is ‘with us’?

Is there anything like ‘Bright Week’ in the West?

Thanks!

The pre-Vatican 2 Divine Office had some peculiarities during the octave of Pascha, but I can’t speak for the present LOH.

From the FSSP’s 2008 Ordo:

“The Octave of Easter is first class and only privileged commemorations are allowed on the days of the octave. Two Alleluias are added to the Ite, Missa est and the Deo gratias during the Octave of Easter, except on Low Sunday. Easter Friday is not a day of abstinence or penitential observance.”

It is effectively celebrated as a continuous Sunday for the eight days of the octave.

In the Latin Church, every day of the Octave is a solemnity, the highest of feasts. Easter Friday is, thus, in no way a day of penance but a great feast! Stuff yourself with meat on that glorious day! 😛
