Is there anything inherently wrong with not wanting to have children of one’s own? Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have children someday. It’s just that I’m not so sure that I want to have children of my own. My reasoning is that there are already so many children in the world in need of love that I see adoption and foster care as more practical options. Of course, I would practice NFP and be open to a new and beautiful life if it came along, but I wouldn’t aim to get pregnant.
I am asking this question because I don’t personally know anyone else with this point of view and that makes me feel a little odd and doubt my own rationale. I am aware of the unique relationship difficulties that can arise between adopted/fostered children and their carers but I feel prepared to accept them due to the unique rewards these challenges also provide.
