Interesting way of broadcasting the nuclear family as some sort of archaic, not much needed, entity.

apa.org/helpcenter/single-parent.aspx

“Over the past 20 years single-parent families have become even more common than the so-called “nuclear family” consisting of a mother, father and children. Today we see all sorts of single parent families: headed by mothers, headed by fathers, headed by a grandparent raising their grandchildren.”

This reminds me when I was at a convention for social workers and mentors for at-risk kids, one of the social workers stood up, said something dismissal of the nuclear family, and loud and proudly raised her hands and put in quotes “family values.”

Oh social sciences. Hijacked by SJWs, feminists, modernists and plain pathological needy people.

Since the Women’s Liberation Movement and the goal of overthrowing the family, it’s been preached since the late 1960s. The woman is in charge. The man is a plaything or sperm donor or discarded when he becomes annoying. Too many live by this lie. Abortion is the woman’s choice only. The man is not responsible or necessary.

The quickest road to poverty anywhere is being a single mother, or, in the alternative, the one who gets custody and child support. The man is diminished according to plan. “Sisters are doing it for themselves.” Annie Lennox - Eurythmics

What used to be unusual, emergency situations is the desired “abnormal.” Children need a mother and the father who brought them into existence.

Eh, there genuinely are more traditional family configurations than just mom and dad with minor children. You could have mom and dad plus a sibling of mom or dad plus kids, mom and dad plus MIL or FIL plus kids, mom and dad and a cousin plus kids, mom and dad and aunt and kids, etc. All of those are quite traditional but are not nuclear families.

Also, bear in mind that social workers do the least amount of work with functioning two parent families. Hence, they have to be aware of the complexities of dealing with larger and more complex households. If they only trained on how to help the Cleavers, they would be at a loss for dealing with most of the situations they deal with.

Also, social workers deal with dysfunctional situations. Social workers rarely cause dysfunction.

Dysfunctional is the “modern” way. Traditional families? Why bother?

Wells said. I grew up in a single parent family with a "father’ who hightailed it to Vegas for gambling, booze, and prostitutes and never sent my mother a penny. That sent us into poverty row for years.

Anyone that thinks that’s a life for a child purposefully, is selfish and has no clue what it’s
like to grow up with no money, in a crummy apartment where no one can come visit you
“because you live, well you know, the wrong side of the tracks” and no Father.

God blessed me abundantly but it was no easy road.

Mary.

Except for the female ones.
Male ones also if they are taking out their own disturbances on men who become the victims in family court. This is the court where the worst person usually comes out ahead because they know how to work the system.😦

You do realize the whole point of the page you linked to was with regard to how difficult it is being raised in a single parent family and how to cope with those difficulties and stressors that the “nuclear family” doesn’t necessarily face. From what I can tell, it seems to imply that having 2 parents is much better. 🤷

Gee whiz, somebody finally read the link! Now I feel silly for not doing the same.

That’s a really good point.

That is not a “rah rah single parenting is awesome” link.

You do realize that the language I highlighted within the quote in my OP was aiming to trivialize “the Cleavers”?

Nothing trivializing or insulting at all in that article. It actually lays out a lot of the real world problems that arise from being a “broken” family.

Hmmm that’s not what I gathered at all from that article. It’s just pointing out that there are abandoned women and children in the world who struggle. The statistics still stand: women are still overwhelmingly the victims/survivors of domestic violence. I would know, I am one of them.

What is a mother/woman to do when she’s abandoned, especially with hungry children? How can they cope? How can they identify as a family?

That’s quite a reach. Feminism means equal rights. Feminism has allowed me the chance to vote, to own property, to have a right to an education. I do not regret such things. I am the survivor of abuse, what would I do without the right to an education?

The nuclear family is a beautiful thing and should be preserved. But we also need to be realistic and recognize that social problems exist because we do not live in a rose-colored world. Bad things happen to good people.

Men are victims of domestic violence at the same rate at women.

I have never met a feminist who demanded that she allowed to be put in the draft.

The woman is in charge.

Because the man shirks his responsibilities.

The man is a plaything

Because men have been enculturated by other men to not mature beyond their teen years.
Since No-Fault divorce, marriage has been a losing proposition for a man.

Men are certainly victims of domestic violence, I don’t dispute that, but you’re incorrect in stating they’re the same rate. They’re not. All it takes is a simple Google search to find out the stats.

Not for my dad or my married brothers; they are very happy in marriages which have lasted from 14 to 55 years. 🙂
However, I think marriage is under an awful lot of pressure in our society.
My dad is one of my heroes and has been a wonderful husband and father.

May God bless you and all who visit our thread.
Amen.

Men are victims of domestic violence at the same rate at women.
But men are less frequently seriously injured or killed by partners.

“Women account for two out of three murder victims killed by an intimate partner.”

cnn.com/2013/12/06/us/domestic-intimate-partner-violence-fast-facts/

There’s going to be some murkiness in that stat due to same-sex partners, but it does suggest that death at the hands of an intimate partner is twice as likely for a woman as for a man.
