I am a novice apologist and finally after years I am ready to begin some serious deep study of scripture. My goal is to know God’s Word better and to become a better fisher of men.

I have a few questions hopefully somebody can help me with. Especially an Apologist.
  1. Should I use the Navarre Catholic Study Bible or the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible?
  2. Which Gospel should I start with? I was thinking John.
  3. Or should I start with something from Paul or Acts before Gospels?
I would kindly appreciate any feedback. Peace & blessings ><>

I think you should start with the O.T. and get to know it well as it is the foundation of the N. T. the proptheties (sp) and all that the prophets imply about the coming of Jesus-Son of God. Fr. Powers said that a prophet is one who speaks the ‘truth’ and the fulfillment of the truth. Start wher you want: just my 2 cents. Peace.

Question 1: Neither, unless you just want a superficial explanation…Like a historian, go to source documents and references: CCC; writings of the Church Fathers, Doctors of the Church, and Saints; and Church Documents (Papal encyclicals, Vatican I and II Documents, and other councils and synods.

Question 2: Read them in Parallel.

Question 3: Read Acts after the Gospels, then Hebrews, then Paul’s epistles followed by the Catholic Letters, and finally Revelation…but don’t forget the Old Testament…The Old Testament conceals, while the New Testament reveals!

Have fun!

I appreciate the advice!
