Apologetics at your Church?

I have seen on John Martignoni’s site that he has an apologetics program to use at the local parishes…has anyone experienced it?

I wish there were some way we could bring the visible passion back to church and the church community. Many protestant pastors are so charismatic and passionate and skilled at speaking that it subliminally draws many people in. Where are the skilled priest speakers? I am not saying they must be…but it surely wouldn’t hurt to have a passionate speaking and charismatic priest. I have never gone to a Church with one. Are any of you members of such a Church?

So many protestants are drawn to their close knit church community. They do many events together…they spend time together outside church…they are best friends with other parish members often. I think this is very positive, and I do not see this in the Catholic Churches I attend. Am I a special case? I simply want to bring the visible passion back to mass and the community.

It is not about doctrinal issues…it is about emotion and passion. I see this in apologetic studies…but I have never been to a Church that ever speaks of defending the faith, or has an apologetics program for the community.

Have any of you had experience with any of this? What are your feelings…positive/negative?

I reiterate…we have the Eucharist which nothing can compare to…all I say is that the addition of some passion would not hurt.

This is changing throughout the Church, unfortunately we are still recovering from many things as a Church. The liberalism, influences of culture and bad Catechesis has contributed to people feeling bleh about the faith. In addition to the negativity so prevalent in society about being Catholic there is a dryness that we have to address.

Now the good news is this.
The influx of new converts from many non-catholic faiths so fired up about the faith come with many gifts to benefit us. Many Catholics have weathered through these last 30-40 years plugging away just waiting for a renewal. Apologetics is the word and people like John Martignoni, organizations such as Catholic Answers are heeding the call. It is happening…

I am studying and involved in a Bible study in my parish, I would like to start up an apologetics group in my Church. There are many out there. We do need to ramp up the programs and get them going, we are all called to be a witness for Christ. I really understand how you feel on this and all I can say is get involved and contribute.
I will be seeing a Baptist pastor tomorrow at work who plans to evangelize me, I pray to be a witness for the Catholic Church and represent!

I’m in the process of putting together a 12 week apologetics class in my parish. There was supposed to be an anouncement in this weeks bulletin but it didn’t make it in, so I have to push the start date back a week. Our parish pastoral associate, who is in charge of adult education, is a graduate of Franciscan University of Stubenville and is supportive of my efforts. As a matter of fact, for the last three years we’ve co-taught the adult Confirmation class using the Beginning Apologetics books I will be using in my 12 week class:

From what I can tell there is a great hunger in our parish for this kind of thing: my wife led an apologetics Bible study last year and it was a great success, but several people complained that it wasn’t open to men as well! The problem in our parish is not support, but space. We are arguably the largest parish in the US but we have scores of ministries all vying for meeting and bulletin space. Their ministries are just as important to them as mine is to me, so I am trying to be patient. Please pray for me and the success of my ministry.

I had the privilege of hearing him speak at the Fullness of Truth conference here in Corpus Christi, TX a few months ago, and he lit a fire of passion within me; the Holy Spirit has been at work ever since on this lowly cradle catholic.

Man, I wanted to go to that bad. Unfortunately I had prior unbreakable obligations. You are the first person I have seen on here from Corpus Christi too. I have heard his conversion story on cd but not too much else. I’ll check our more on him.

Father Corapi is great. We used to listen to him on Catholic Radio, until we lost Catholic Radio, here in my area.

We got to go listen to him in person, when he came for a presentation in front of one of our local parishes a couple of years ago. I really love listening to him talk, his voice, and his passion really come through.

I think I’ll always remember him saying (in a deep voice, Corapi style) “I was going to be somebody”.
