What is an Apologist?.
How do you become an Apologist?
Hi.
Boy, did you come to the right forum.
The term “apologist” comes from the Latin word that, today, means more of an “I’m sorry,” but the true root of the word means, “To defend or explain.”
Not all theological apologists are Catholic. There are Protestants as well.
Catholic Answers Live, the radio show that forms the heart of Catholic Answers (which runs this forum) is an apologist group dedicated to spreading the word of God by explaining and defending the teachings of the Catholic Church. Apologists don’t speak for the Church but accurately reflect the official teachings and answer questions common and unique, large or small, about Catholicism and where Protestant denominations conflict.

By answering your question, by definition, I’m an apologist. There isn’t a definitive course or study to become an apologist, although a degree in Theology might help. All that is needed is some charitability, a firm grasp on where to find answers on Church teaching, and a kind word to those who might reject your answer.
