Apologists needed at the local level! Mpls-St., Paul

I was the one who suggested the courses. I looked around a bit and they are pretty solid. Endorced by Archbishop Burke who might be created Cardinal one of these days. The courses are relavitly inexpensive 45.oo- 60.oo per level and three levels basic/ beginner to master catachist. Seem to be very doctrinally sound and after reading Archbishop Burke’s comments that carries a certain weight all its own. My own idea would be to find a group of faithful lay Catholics who would go all the way through the series (maybe 6 mos or more). Then with the direction of a solid priest conduct adult classes especially at the parishs that are struggling. It would have to be with the local Ordinary’s approval but I got the idea after thinking about a 5th week program I am do on my own after compleating the Spiritual Exercises with the Jesuits (went on a couple retreats recently). I think that a program of education of solid doctrine by the laity for the laity combined with a few good parish retreats over time could win souls for Our Lord. The way they are going it is not through the narrow gate. I belive though that if Our Lord can gather together some faithful devout lay men and women who can undertake a study program and then through official permission can help instruct other lay people that souls can be won and parishs saved. I know as a convert that with understanding of why the Church teaches certain things and seeing other women and men living within the fullness of faith that it drove me further into the wonder of the Bride of Christ. I think that this along with some good parish retreats and lots of prayers could have a great effect for the Body of Christ. Maybe it is the marine in me (yes you heard correctly) but I would rather work towards a positive solution - through God’s Grace than just ‘bang cymbals’. I think that this could be a opportunity and a wonderful challege to transform this archdiocese and others to proper Church teaching and win souls for Our Lord which be we lay or religous or ordained are all called to do. That is my little thoughts on the subject feel free to contact me and maybe we can have a meeting and do some good for Almighty God. NOW! As far as orthodox parishes, I will list the ones I know offhand:
  • Epiphany, Coon Rapids
  • Holy Family, St. Louis Park
  • St. Agnes, St. Paul
  • St. Augustine, South St. Paul
    *the Cathedral, St. Paul
  • I hear a lot about St. Jerome on relevant radio, which makes me think that they may be fairly orthodox.
Dissenting:
  • St. Joan of Arc, Minneapols
  • Pax Christi…Eden Prairie, I think
  • Annunciation…Minneapolis (went to a Good Friday service there and when I knelt to pray, holding my rosary, no one else knelt at all upon entering, no one genuflected, and people stared at me as though I was an exhibit in a menagerie–signs that you are either not in a Catholic church or those who go there do not know their faith))
  • St. Albert the Great…Minneapolis. Feminist Social Justice homilist, no kneeling during the consecration (some do, but the majority do not bother)

As someone else has mentioned, I think that St. Michael’s in Stillwater is OK. I believe the pastor is a friend of Father Dufner at my own parish, Holy Family in St. Louis Park, so that tells me a lot. Can’t beat St. Agnes for music, though…

When Fr. Dufner announced last year that the archdiocese was going to be beginning an “Evangelization Initiative”, I inwardly groaned and thought, how can anyone give what they don’t have? Don’t we need Catholics who understand their faith so they know what it is they’re trying to offer the world? Well, in the next sentence Father basically stated my concerns and announced that Holy Family’s particular effort in the Initiative would be apologetics. It’s been great: it started last Lent, and after a summer hiatus we’ll be starting again within a month or so. The idea is to challenge and evangelize the culture as well-equipped, serious Catholics. Anyway, this is all to say that it is possible to set up such a program.
 
Epiphany is also beginning a program of education for the masses…the adult masses.

Starting on Sunday, the 25th our good Pastor is presenting a topic on the Eucharist and today I picked up the itinerary for both that and for the upcoming Wed. night classes on other various topics.

I’m not sure if the schedule is online yet, and today I when I spoke with him briefly I actually mentioned the program at Holy Family. I think that this is Epiphany’s effort to do something similar, an obviously, our priests have recognized the need to educate people.

Thank God for holy, orthodox priests! They may go about the education programs differently…but in the end, I think we’ll have some very solid Catholics who weren’t otherwise so.

So! Anyone know any other local Catholics who want to be sure orthodoxy has a presence at these alleged “listening sessions” which are otherwise oriented toward the incorrect hypothesis that women want to deny their femininity and that women are being “oppressed by the patriarchical heirarchy”.

Anyone…anyone?

I know there are more from the area on these forums…

My parish priest actually SAID we should go and provide some information to the lost souls who will attend! Let us go and be beacons for Christ!

(And since I have a temper and a sharp tongue at times, I really, really, really, think it’s important for those of you more evenly keeled but fired up to go and defend Mother Church from this infiltration!)
 
HOLLLLLY SMOKES!!! I went tonight to St. Timothy’s over in Blaine. The moderator was not bad and seemed to stay neutral, though I don’t know that she was. Buuuuuuuut. Talk about radical feminist, pro-gay, anti-magesterium, we’re the Church, we have the power, we wouldn’t have all these problems if women were priests and deacons, and BISHOPS AND POPES, anti-just war, the Church needs to become a democracy and it’s not even a republic, we’re second class citizens, and on and on and on. On the bright side apparently most parishes didn’t advertise it as they were supposed to (oh darn, not unnoticed by those in attendance). On the negative side it was poorly attended by those with a conservative bent. In otherwords I was outnumbered 10-1 and was the only male in the group. I was not allowed to challenge anyone’s views. One woman got a bit testy with me when I did. But on the flip side I was heard and they did not challenge my views. I spoke out on contraception, teen age promiscuity, support for out priests, better catechesis (which these women definitley needed), support for clergy, theology of the body and several other items. I did what I could without getting lynched. I am not joking these women were off their rocker. I feel like I need a good absolution and perhaps about 5 hours before the blessed sacrament. My tongue also needs to grow back as it was hard to go by the rules. If you can go, do, but be prepared for the worst because that is what your going to run in to. It does sound like the parish priests were resistant to it and did not advertise it in there bulletins.

Pray against this commission that it falls apart and for these women that they REPENT!!!

Tonight I saw the local leader of our Frassati Socieity…and I will let her know what you learned today. We are going to mobilize an effort, and I think your testimoney may do very well…especially being that the majority of members seems to be female!

It ran for about and hour. The format was four questions that they wrote comments on to compile and bring back to the Archbishop.
  1. What do you see as the critical concerns affecting women in the Church today?
  2. What issues/concerns are not being addressed by the Church today?
  3. What roles would you like women to have in the Church in the future?
  4. What needs to be in place for the vision developed in #3 to be achieved in the future?
There was no challenging of other’s views, which in a sense was perhaps good. What I tried to do is to interject in to the comments concerns that were positive for the way the Church was structured, because it’s not going to change and should not.

“St Michael’s in Stillwater…OK.” St Michaels in Stillwater is more than OK, it’s Great. When my wife and I lived in Hudson WI, we were parish members there. 24-7 Adoration, Daily Mass morning and evening, great Pastor, what a good orthodox parish.

I have to agree with you about St Agnes though. The music is great and so is Fr Altier. I miss going to Mass there sometimes after work. I’m glad that I can listen to Fr Altier Tueday afternoons on Drew Mariani’s show on Relevant Radio. Doesn’t St Agnes have the highest amount of seminarians in the Archdiocese?

Maybe the discenting churches should schedule to have Jeff Cavins come in and do some talks.
 
I posted the longer verison on my weblog with the posting titled taking it to the streets. Since this started through some prayer and thought and some prety big named apolgosist and priests backing it I think by next week I will be able to anounce a meeting to form a action plan on this subject and take back Christ’s Bride for Our Lord. After all it is God’s Church not a fring group of psudo-heritics. Go to the blog and find the post and pray about it and then contact me as I plan to use this inspiration Our Lord has given to me to save souls and expose those who have hidden agendas. Men and Women of Faith stand in the Light of Truth and fix messes and make thigs beutiful for God…how ever rats and cockroaches run from the Light. Let us shine the Light and rejoice!
