As for Scott Hahn, I don’t want to take this thread off topic, but New Oxford Review has several articles pointing out problems in his theology, including refering to the Holy Spirit with various feminine terms:
You mean, the way the Old Testament does?

SK

On Scott Hahn, some of what he says is in error, and some of what he says is good and useful. I don’t see why every theologian must be classified as either faithful or unfaithful, conservative or liberal, good or bad, so that one either accepts everything said or rejects everything said. I don’t agree with Hahn’s view of the so-called fifth and final dogma, nor with his rather novel interpretation of Revelation (which ignores its meaning for the future of the Church), nor with his description of the Holy Spirit as feminine, maternal, etc.

The zeal of the OP is good, but this zeal should lead to further study, not to immediately setting up a group that will teach under his direction.

I think those are my two main points for this thread.

Ron, I agree, though, I also believe that all he said in the OP was “I need help writing the content.” Which could mean one of two things: He will either be writing the content with his helpers, or the helpers will be writing the content for him. If the latter, then obviously we have no problem (assuming the “helpers” are qualified to be of service). If the former, we still may have no problem. It all depends on the level of teaching he wants to delve into. Something like a “Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth” document obviously does not require a great level of expertise. Something like a Summa Theologica, on the other hand…

What also matters is the “style” of teaching, referring to a dynamic or static style. If his style is going to be simple and static (meaning it will just be posted teachings, not an interactive forum of some kind), this is also of far less concern than a dynamic approach would be whereupon he interacts with people on a regular basis, attempting to answer addtional questions, etc.

It is my understanding that he wants the site to be interactive. Especially protestants, and others, who brings into questions the scriptural basis of the Catholic faith. Too many think there is no such thing. Of course, it would need to have links to such sites as Catholic Answers. You could always help with this!!

Ok, well, then he’ll definitely need to exercise a little caution there.
Too many think there is no such thing.
Really!!! Hm…

Yes. In fact…It’ll be interesting to hear more of the specifics. Maybe I’ll leave it at that.
You could always help with this!!
🙂

An email has been sent. We’ll see…

SK

I don’t have any specifics myself. The last email I sent him has gone unanswered. Maybe he did get scared out of the idea. But, if anyone else comes up with a decent idea, I’m willing to help out. To a point. 🤷

I’m 40 and have come home into The Church Easter 2007. I was agnostic/atheist for most of my life and then attended protestant McChurches. Coupled with wanting to learn the bible more, and being confronted with typical harsh anit-Catholic bigotry, I became open to read what Catholics said they believe in and read their side of apologetics. Within 6 months, I was watching EWTN almost everyday. Anyway, enough about me…

We are called to use our time and talent to forward the truth. I have a company that produces web sites and have created a template for an apologetic web site, but I need content writers for all the many typical apologetic questions. I’m a big fan of John Martignoni. With 2 jobs and a new family member, I need help writing the content. I hope this site can be a springboard to be a ‘society’ or club that parishes can start around the country just the way there is ‘Theology on Tap’. Apologetics are so important for our faith, I think catholics are realizing that.

Only serious inquiries please. Email Sean at donohue6195@hotmail.com.
I think we need a TOT program for the 40’s and 50’s Catholics. TOT here at least is currently is for 20’s and 30’s. The 40’s and 50’s Catholics, are the Catholics who went through the Vatican II changes and confusion.

Wow, thanks to all the good respondants. I’ve had about 5 people contact to contribute content, etc. I’ve simply not enough time to do it all myself. It will take forever. I appreciate all with positive messages. Someone said apologetics is the rage, and that everyone and their Mom wants to do a site…well, Great! I hope so! Lord knows His church needs it! I hope there are 10,000 more sites by year’s end…but mine, if it ever does get completed, will be one of the best in both content, form and usability. It’s what I do professionally and I take pride in my work.

For those with a defeatist attitude, go back to the 70’s. Ron Conte is, well, has some real issues to work on. Scott Hahn is off on his theology? and Ron can’t wait to refute my website (his words) before it’s even created. Well Ron, you must be a Protestant hiding out…because to refute it would be placing you on the other side. But just come out of the protestant closet Ron. What a dumb thing to say.

Apologetics should be one of the most important lessons for Catholics these days…because it really is catechizing people. Learning apologetics is learning your faith…how can you be against that or give some warning…this church needs help and we’re the frontline as Fr. Corapi (Fr. Corapi rocks!) says. I would bet I know more than the majority of most craddle Catholics. Most people know the most informed are often those just recently come into the church - mainly ex-Protestants. A shame. But better than not having them…I hope they change everything around. Welcome home ex-protestants! You’re the best to me.

The church has lost millions around the globe and will continue to do so unless action is taken. Yes, wake up, I said action. Trust me, I believe in prayer, but I’m sick and tired of hearing that we should just pray for conversion and belief, like in the corner or something. When I hear that constantly it makes me nuts. Yes, we should defintiely pray( we all must pray - don’t email saying I don’t believe in prayer), pray at church and to the Eucharist, and then when you get off your knees, get off your butt and do something about it. If you don’t have any fight in your life, then you better check your pulse because maybe its flatlining, especially with today’s Western world that is imploding into selfish euthanasia and extinction.

And, if it matters, I hope to have a very well known apologist review the site before production…if it ever gets there.

Catholics need more action, amazing that someone would discourage that…but people like Ron (if he is catholic) are more part of the problem than the solution, in my opinion, with such attitude.

Thanks to all the positive responses! I’ve not abandoned the idea at all, it will take time but we’ll get there.

You go, my friend. Do not let the Ron Conte’s of the world shut you down. You are on fire and I can tell that you would present only official Church teachings on your web site. Apolgetics is what got me fired up in the faith and I have been teaching ever since. I’ve heard almost all of the great apologist and Scott Hahn is noted as one of the best. I’ve read almost all of his books.

Keep up the good fight!! Never ever, ever, ever give up. May God bless you…teachccd

Sound interesting! Is it going to be something that we sign up for and get something in the mail to start at our parish or is it all online?

Thanks for the response. I hope to do both, but it will have to be done in stages, including the apologetic part too because it is so big. The first release should have apologetic strategies and the basic questions catholics get asked and all the basic question catholics should know to counter and start asking questions themselves. For those deep in the faith and apologetics, you will be very familiar with these issues but we need to get a quick and concise and accurate way of presenting this to all those still learning and in need of defense. And for every bit of defense, I want some offense (see martignoni’s site). From there I would like to develop a platform with instructions, meeting lists, etc for how one can develop parish apologetic club. And for that, I’d probably want to enlist those familiar with organizing such clubs to make them manageabke and successful. But I’ll have to ask for that too. I have other ideas but that’ll come much later.

Thanks again! Call to action!
Sean

So, a converted Catholic wants to start up an Apologetics site, and he has detractors? Like Ron Conte?

Look up Ron Conte’s qualifications.

A Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theology from Boston College. No Masters. No PhD. No teaching experience. No seminary training. An undergraduate degree.

Yet he fancies himself an authority on Catholic teaching, such that that the Catechism, Scott Hahn, Christopher West, etc. are wrong, and HE is correct. (Yet Hahn and West have advanced degrees, are linked to Catholic institutions, and have real publishers).

Be that as it may, if an undergraduate degree qualifies Mr. Conte to run a website, I think that Sean’s efforts should be appreciated and encouraged, especially since he’s trying to recruit other people to assist him.

Does this quote from Ron Conte “If the OP does eventually set up such a website, I look forward to reading and refuting its many errors” demonstrate the love of Christ or Christian charity? Or is this the hubris and arrogance of someone who is insecure in his own Faith?

Sean, grandfather is absolutely right. My best to you and God bless you for your fervency and I hope you get all of the help that you need to get going. I taught a fourteen week apologetics class at my parish and the people could not get enough. It was all in line with official Catholic teachings and my beginning attendance remained throughout the course. I am not a professional apologist but the material I covered adequately satisfied the learners. Apologetics is what got me fired up for our faith nine years ago and I’ve been fired up ever since…Peace…teachccd 🙂
O-o-oh! I would love to get a course started at our parish.
Would you mind telling us what materials you used, please?
You may PM me if you do not want to post it here.

Thanks in advance

Mimi
