Do you guy’s have any experience participating on other Christian forums?

I occasionally follow a major Christian discussion forum and noticed only a few Catholics that actually step up and defend the faith on a regular basis. This forum has about a dozen or so specific “Catholic” threads such as “Why do we need a Pope?”. The discussions get pretty heated at times and are not for the weak in faith. The problem is the Catholics are bombarded from all angles by the usual “misconceptions” and are always on the defensive against the Protestant majority.

Wouldn’t Christian forums such as this be a good venue to properly explain the Catholic faith and dispel the common misconceptions?

It seems some of the few Catholic apologists are actually converts from evangelical Christianity and seem to be the most passionate about defending their faith.

I was just wondering if any of you guy’s have tested your apologetics skills in an evangelical Christian environment and what your experiences were?

Also, if you think you can handle it, why not help out some fellow Catholics defend the faith we all love?

I have gone to a few non-Catholic Christian forums before. But the ones that I found was not very active so I lost interest.

What one do you go to? Maybe I can join up with you there.

Does anyone know if it is still against forum rules to post the name of another forum? I know they used to discourage “swarming”. Not sure if they still do.

(Anyone interested can always PM me.) 👍

I couldn’t agree with you more. Iron sharpeth Iron. 👍

I’m very active on a Christian forum, and I would dare say there are less Catholic “misconception” threads now than when I started, so that’s a good thing. There are still a handful of people there who just ignore what you say, but I think there are enough there who are willing to read and consider that makes it worth while. There are some other forums that I used to peruse, but there was so much rhetoric and bombast there, I felt that giving some of their members any attention was just feeding their need for anti-Catholicism. Sometimes we should appeal to St. Ambrose:*To avoid dissensions we should be ever on our guard, more especially with those who drive us to argue with them, with those who vex and irritate us, and who say things likely to excite us to anger. When we find ourselves in company with quarrelsome, eccentric individuals, people who openly and unblushingly say the most shocking things, difficult to put up with, we should take refuge in silence, and the wisest plan is not to reply to people whose behavior is so preposterous. Those who insult us and treat us contumeliously are anxious for a spiteful and sarcastic reply: the silence we then affect disheartens them, and they cannot avoid showing their vexation; they do all they can to provoke us and to elicit a reply, but the best way to baffle them is to say nothing, refuse to argue with them, and to leave them to chew the cud of their hasty anger.

Here is a post from yesterday on a thread called "why do we need a Pope?

"For me, that was an exceptional discourse on how contrary to scripture is the Catholic church.

However, I’m convinced that Catholics are brainwashed into their belief.

From the rigid dogma of repetitive ritual to the chanting of the rosary, and all the other hocus-pocus they have no one can reach them.

If they wanted to build their church on someone it should have been Paul, he was the one sent to the Gentiles, not Peter.

Mary was not a virgin as evidenced by Mark 3:31, 32 but they convolute that statement as well.

And finally their concept of needing a pope was dispelled in Hebrews, chapter 7 where Paul speaks of not achieving perfection because of the changing priesthood. Because Christ lives forever, He has now become our unchangeable Priest.

The Catholics have just re-installed a form of the Levitical priesthood and reverted back to the law.

Hebrews 8:1 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the Majesty in the heavens,

2, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, not man.

Their pope is what they have erected, not what God has erected in Jesus Christ. We go to Him alone."

Again, only a few Catholics defending the Church from comments like this.
