To all,

I would like to take a minute to apologize to all or you whom I have offended.

I truly did not come here to fight or to stir up trouble, but to talk and to try to find common ground.

When I came here, I came because I had just left another message board out of frustration for the abuse I had taken from the Roman Catholics there (which I had gone to after facing similar abuse from Roman Catholics in real life). Then, when I came here and was told that Baptists cannot be saved and aren’t even real Christians, that set me off I responded in an Unchristlike and unacceptable manner.

Whether I like what someone says to me or not, it’s still up to me to respond to it in a charitable way and I didn’t do that.

As for my comments about the pope, no, of course I do not think that the pope is the devil. I said that in a moment of anger, lashing out at someone for something hurtful that they had said to me.

I know the great reverence that you all have for the pope and, while I disagree with that on scriptural grounds, I do respect your allegience to him.

While I do not know much about the new pope, I did have a tremendous amount of respect for John Paul for his work on behalf of human rights and for his role in the fight against Communism.

While I still had many serious doctrinal disagreements with him, I did admire him for trying to serve God as best he could.

Again, I am profoundly sorry to all of those whom I’ve offended and will try to do better in the future.

Thank you,

Mike

We all lash out in anger sometimes. We are HUMAN the way God made us. We have faults and we get one thing that no other creatures on earth have… forgivness. Just the fact that you did write this apology shows that you are a good person and have a conscience. I have seen some just spout off and go over board with no apology. I actually got verbally assulted in a chat room. I cried for a while after word. I am happy that you did this. Even though I wasn’t one of the people you were talking to. Thank you. 👍

Thank you for this. Though I’m not one of the people you may have been talking to specifically, it just shows that we are all human and we do fall into error. All of us do, it’s human. I recall a passage from a book of sorts, that said something to the effect of “seek and ye shall find”. Now, I’m not sure where that comes from, but it’s wisdom for all of us. You have come seeking, you shall find (Just the same with everyone I hope).

Iam no exception to crankiness. I do defend my faith with all that Iam. I apologize if anything I said was hurtful. That being said, I
would further love to discuss my faith on a friendly level. or any other topic that might be of interest.

Sometimes circumstances in our lives tend to get the better of us. It’s hard to control feelings when you feel your faith is being attacked, and it’s only natural to want to respond to those attacks.

One thing about these boards is that you learn not only self-control, but humility. We realize that many people here have one thing in common - our love for our Lord Jesus Christ. This is what brings us to humility and makes us strive to really want to understand each other, whether our faith backgrounds are Catholic or not. We are all on a journey of faith here on Earth, a journey that we hope will lead us closer to God.

I’m glad to hear that you’ve re-examined yourself and your responses earlier on this board, and I, for one, accept your apology. I’m glad your back, and I hope you can find answers to your questions about the Catholic faith and the things in Christ all Christians have in common.

Peace be with you! 🙂

On my part, I deeply apologize for any Catholics who offended you. Especially those who told you that Baptists can’t be saved. That’s patently untrue! It may be you ran into a group of ultra-traditionalist Catholics for whom even the pope isn’t Catholic enough. They do not speak for the Church nor for orthodox Catholics loyal to the Magisterium of the Church. So, please accept our apology. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!

That is very admirable that you made this thread. Thanks.
Just as a follow-up, no more references to the Host as a “cracker” please. I was surprised to see you post that *after *you made this thread. It is a good example of how even after we ask for forgiveness we can fall into sin again. That is why we work on our salvation “in fear and trembling”. 😉

I was sincere when I apologized for saying that. I honestly did not know. In our church, we either use crackers or French bread.

Since my tradition teaches that it’s OK to use crackers (since they are a bread), I honestly did not know that to suggest that Catholics used crackers would be a bad thing.

Again, I am sorry for using that terminology. It was an innocent mistake and I will not do it again.

That having been said, I hope that we can move on.

There’s no offense taken where none is intended. 🙂 The proper words for unconsecrated bread in the Catholic Church is a wafer or host. It is a wafer since it is nothing more than wheat flour and water made into a thin wafer. And it is called a host because it “hosts” the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, the substance of which, after consecration, becomes the body and blood of Christ inhabited by his soul and divinity.

Dance backward friend. After all those years, you told us about, in Catholic school and Catholic Church, you very well knew you were insulting us.
I’ll be glad to move on, but with caution now…

Thank you, 12V. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, phrasing like you used is a deliberate jab; I’m glad to know in this case that I musjudged it.

Peace.

I’ve apologized four times now for one simple slip of the tounge.

That’s enough. You’re free to accept those four apologized or not.

This lurker accepts your apology, and welcomes you back to posting on the forum. Some get very stung as others have said some extremely offensive things which as Catholics who love Jesus, it hurts us to see offense given to the faith which we see as coming from Jesus.

I look forward to your contributions to these threads. Again welcome back.

We are supposed to see Christ in each other no matter what, and this is one reason we give so much respect to the Pope and to others who are appointed around us, as we see Christ in others and in our spiritual family.

God Bless

Good to have you back! Dont be too hard on yourself. None of us are perfect. We all lash out sometimes, when we feel hurt.

That said, I look forward to contributions from you on any subject.
Maybe you could start A thread in the Water Cooler section on A non-doctrinal subject. That way we could talk and get too know you better, and vice versa 🙂

I am A New Orleans native, living in this wreck of A city that gave me birth. While all around the powers that be decide to dance as the ship goes down. (ie mardi Gras) Not sure how i feel about it but would love to discuss it with anyone interested. (Idea?)

Aside, A poster said the wafer was called “Host” because it “Hosts” the real prescence in the Eucharist.
Not so “Host” is the name given to the Conscecrated Specie. It is from the Latin Hostia. It means victim.

God Bless!
Doce me Domine, vias tuas!

That was me! :o I don’t recall where I got my information, but it was obviously wrong. Thanks for the correction! 👍

“seek and ye shall find…” PLEASE tell me my Catholic friend that you are joking when you say that you “aren’t sure where that [saying] comes from!”

Mathew 7: 7-8:

7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

I came here and was told that Baptists cannot be saved and aren’t even real Christians,=== Some one from this board said this or are you talking about the other board. All my life I have been told that Catholics are not saved by Baptist but I never heard a Catholic say Baptist are not saved. All my family are Baptist and they tel me all the time I must get right with God, We must work till the end to be saved.

Both, but I was speaking specifically of this board.
All my life I have been told that Catholics are not saved by Baptist but I never heard a Catholic say Baptist are not saved.
No one is saved by their church affiliation, be they Roman Catholic, Baptist, or what have you.

I have no doubt that there are Roman Catholics who are saved, but if they are, it’s by virtue of their faith in Christ and not because of any of the rituals of the Roman Catholic church.
All my family are Baptist and they tel me all the time I must get right with God, We must work till the end to be saved.
No, once you’re saved, you’re saved.
