And we’d say the same.No one is saved by their church affiliation, be they Roman Catholic, Baptist, or what have you.
Catholics aren’t saved by the “rituals” of the Church but by the Sacraments of the Church, which Christ established in order to bring saving grace to our souls. The Sacraments get their effectiveness from the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, which is a part of the faith we have in Christ, not in opposition to it.I have no doubt that there are Roman Catholics who are saved, but if they are, it’s by virtue of their faith in Christ and not because of any of the rituals of the Roman Catholic church.
Apology accepted, and I forgive you.To all,
I would like to take a minute to apologize to all or you whom I have offended.
I truly did not come here to fight or to stir up trouble, but to talk and to try to find common ground.
When I came here, I came because I had just left another message board out of frustration for the abuse I had taken from the Roman Catholics there (which I had gone to after facing similar abuse from Roman Catholics in real life). Then, when I came here and was told that Baptists cannot be saved and aren’t even real Christians, that set me off I responded in an Unchristlike and unacceptable manner.
Whether I like what someone says to me or not, it’s still up to me to respond to it in a charitable way and I didn’t do that.
As for my comments about the pope, no, of course I do not think that the pope is the devil. I said that in a moment of anger, lashing out at someone for something hurtful that they had said to me.
I know the great reverence that you all have for the pope and, while I disagree with that on scriptural grounds, I do respect your allegience to him.
While I do not know much about the new pope, I did have a tremendous amount of respect for John Paul for his work on behalf of human rights and for his role in the fight against Communism.
While I still had many serious doctrinal disagreements with him, I did admire him for trying to serve God as best he could.
Again, I am profoundly sorry to all of those whom I’ve offended and will try to do better in the future.
Thank you,
Mike
I used to believe this were true… but I could never reconcile it with Hebrews Chapter 6….
No, once you’re saved, you’re saved.
Yup. From our human point of view it would be, wouldn’t it? Of course, God loves us too much to let us deceive ourselves into thinking we’re just fine when we aren’t, doesn’t he?OSAS- if it were only that easy.
in XT.
That would be nice. I guess you don’t beleive in the freewill of man. We all can turn away. St. Paul constantly tells us that we have to persevere, until the end.No, once you’re saved, you’re saved.
It takes a mighty big person to admit they were wrong and then to post an apology. That is very admirable that you made this thread. Thanks.
What about the night that Jimmy swaggart was caugh with the whore, what if he had drop dead, are you saying he would be in heaven. Both, but I was speaking specifically of this board.
