In the current Catholic Church, there’s no such thing is a present day apostle. What happened, didn’t they replace an apostle when an apostle dies? Is apostleship replaced?

It wasn’t removed. Bishops are the current day apostles. That is exactly what apostolic succession is; replacing one apostle with a new one. In the case of bishops new apostles are added as the needs of the Church requires.

Apostles were men who Jesus personally appointed and sent to testify about HIm.

Bishops are the men appointed through the Apostles to oversee the respective communities put into their care.

While there are many out there, people cannot appoint themselves to be Apostles.

Try telling that to the so-called “Lay Apostles” (self appointed). They usually get “messages” from God and the Saints which you can buy in multiple volumes - like my local one who shall remain nameless. You can say that only Christ can appoint apostles and His Church by succession - but they sometimes get appointed directly by God Himself through their visions/locutions etc.
