Apostolate for victims of clergy sex abuse

I am a cradle Catholic and recently embraced my faith completely. I love the Church and only want to see it grow. However, as the priest sex abuse scandal is fading away my conscience bothers me. Has the Church or any lay organizations sought out the victims to counsel them. Should we focus more attention on the victims even though it is hard to do?

Is there an apostolate out there that seeks to reach out to victims and their families and try to help them heal and return to their faith? No one wants to discuss this topic because it makes us uncomfortable, but I feel a call from Jesus Christ asking me about our moral responsibility to help the victims of this evil perpetrated on them. Has anyone else felt this way?

Many young boys and men committed suicide, lost their faith or their direction in life. We must reach out to them. There are many, many good priests who sadly were mistreated because of the evil few priests who committed these terrible, tragic sins. We must reach them too.

every diocese is supposed to have appointed someone as a sort of ombudsman to seek out such legitimate victims, encourage them to come forward if they have not already done so, and make sure resources are made available to minister to them if they ask for it, counselling etc, and to make sure they know how to seek redress for their situation. that person is usually the vicar general of the diocese, and each diocese has to publish info on this outreach every year, usually about this time of year.
