St. Paul is considered an Apostle because he was chosen by Our Lord.
The end of the Apostolic Age is considered to be marked by the death of St. John.
After that we - and all who followed the Apostles- become disciples of Christ…

And while the title of Apostle passed with St. John, the Authority of the Apostles remains, specifically in the office and person of Bishop

The apostles ordained bishops by the laying on of hands. The first bishop of Rome was Linus after Peter. Then were Cletus and then Clement. In Antioch I believe that Ignatius was the first of the sccussors. Those are all I know.We don’t have apostles tosay because the apostolic age ended with John the apostle. The Catholic Church has successors to the apostles in the bishops though.
