I had a discussions with anyone from anglican to baptist and they all claim that all true believers are descended from the apostles not just priests and we all have the ability to forgive or not forgive sins

When I show them
Acts 1

And
John 20:21-23
King James Version (KJV)
21*Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

22*And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

23*Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

It’s like talking to a wall because I say that isn’t what the bible says

Did not Jesus say that some would not be able to see or hear and did not some of the jews reject Him even though he gave them powerful signs?
I am convinced that for all we fool ourselves in believing we are better than those jews Jesus would still be crucified today.
Does not matter how good your arguments are or how eloquent and convincing you are, some will still reject the teaching. 😦

  1. Don’t just defend yours, but bravely ask them for their reason of their belief. The saying that any true believer can forgive other’s sin should turn out to be unfounded.
  2. If true believers can forgive sins, then it can only mean true believers can forgive themselves, which surely doesn’t make sense.

There are no biblical distinctions that separate “true believers” from any other kind of believers. This is an artificial category created to explain that Calvanism does not fit the evidence of Scripture.

Yes of course we all have the ability to forgive and retain sins. Each time we pray the our Father, we forgive others their trespasses. If we do not forgive others from the heart, then we will pay the penalty.

But this forgiveness is not in the name of the Church, as those who have been ordained do. They have received authority from the Apostles to act on behalf of the Bride of Christ.

The issue is the rejection of the apostolic authority having been passed to the Bishop. When one refuses that, there is not much else you can do.
