Used language similar to Luther. I found it funny myself! 😃
Martin Luther then attacked Henry VIII in print, calling him a ā€œpig, dolt, and liarā€.[5]:227 At the request of Henry VIII, More set about composing a rebuttal: the resulting Responsio ad Lutherum was published at the end of 1523. In the Responsio, More defended the supremacy of the papacy, the sacraments, and other church traditions. More’s language, like Luther’s, was virulent, and he branded Luther an ā€œapeā€, a ā€œdrunkardā€, and a ā€œlousy little friarā€ amongst other insults.[5]:230

Well, if the shoe fit, then Luthur should wear it. And those were probably some of his fine points.

St Thomas More, pray for us.

St Thomas Aquinas said it was a good thing to be angry in a just cause . . .

I wonder if the same thing applies to foul language used to defend a just cause . . .

Any thoughts?

Being angry with someone is certainly not a sin when it’s for a just cause. Jesus taught us that when He booted the money changers out of the Temple. He also called the Pharisees a ā€˜brood of vipers’, which wasn’t very complimentary, I’m sure. I’m hoping that using foul language is given the same leeway, since I have been known to be guilty of being a real ā€˜potty mouth’ at times. (My brother in law once referred to me as ā€˜Swill Lips’.) I do try to keep it in check, but that doesn’t always work too well. 😊 😃

Wait a minute…
Henry the 8th didn’t call anyone a name.
I demand an appeal!!

I don’t know about foul language, but I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when St. Nicholas punched Arius in the face, or when Jesus flipped the tables of the money changers and ran them out of the temple. Righteous anger, I believe, is mentioned in scripture.

Define foul language. šŸ˜‰
Jesus had some pretty harsh words against the Pharisees.
Just sayinā€™ā€¦šŸ˜ƒ

Feeling anger and expressing it are seperate things

Expressing anger through constructive action (just cause) is what I think St Thomas meant.
Expressing anger through foul language, physical assault, or even murder (to make my point) is not a ā€˜just’ expression.

So, do you think Jesus shouldn’t have yelled at the money changers, turned over their tables or beat them with a whip to chase them out of the Temple, because that wasn’t a ā€˜just’ expression of His anger? What should He have done, instead? Report them to the High Priest? 🤷
