This book by Francis Moloney does an awesome job of showing the importance of this event. Chapter 4 on the Gospel of Luke, Moloney writes about how this event was pivotal in the early church. The disciples had left Jerusalem (the church) to return to the church after the breaking of the bread. He uses this event to show that all the disciples, and apostles had “left the church” and this event is the beginning of getting them back together.
