Apple Pulls White-Power Music From the iTunes Store

Following complaints from the Southern Poverty Law Center, Apple on December 15 took down music with white-supremacy themes.

In their investigation, SPLC revealed 54 racist bands on iTunes, and is now reporting that 30 of those have been removed from the online store.

The SPLC is also pressuring other online music services like Amazon.

I read Chronicles Magazine which is a paleoconservative magazine that has been slandered by the SPLC and they refer to the SPLC as the $PLC.

They are nothing but a bunch of fear-mongerers who use scare tactics to gain money.

Excellent point. We will grow old waiting for highly-offensive, demeaning to women, and offensive “rap music” to be removed. As I recall, the SPLC was connected to the draft Homeland Security rules several years ago naming the pro-life movement as potential “terrorists.” So will the SPLC be coming after Catholic hymns on iTunes next?

They hypocritically deny the Armenian Genocide while they go after the throats of people who deny the Holocaust(I am not a Holocaust denier btw just pointing out the hypocrisy). Heavy Metal is actually a separate genre from Rock. Metal actually removes the blues(African) influence from Rock and hardens it. I’ve listened to Metal and I’ve listen to African drumming: the rhythms are completely different.

That was my first thought when I saw this. A lot of rap music is no different in tone, and sometimes far worse than the white supremacist music (especially when you throw in the pornographic and misogynistic elements), but to attack that would be considered racist.

There was a pair of young sisters, I think 8-10 years old at the time, who created quite a stir a few years ago because they were a white supremacist singing duo. Their music was more country-folk. It was fairly amateurish but with a better producer the stuff I heard wouldn’t have sounded out of place on mainstream country radio (lyrics notwithstanding). They were apparently winning over quite a few converts to their cause. I was doing some research into the white supremacist movement at the time for a project I was working on. The brash, violent skinhead types were pretty awful, but the more subtle, guy next door, politician types were scarier.

Well, that’s because the cops are ALL white racists and support brutal authoritarian oppression and violence against poor perpetually innocent civilians! Cops spend all their time looking for non-white people to arrest and/or kill for no reason other that racism. So when rappers shout “[expletive] DA POLICE!” we should applaud them for taking a stand against hate.

Now on a serious note, I love the folks in Blue. I consider them to be some of the best people in the world who honestly deserve a lot of respect for what they do. I’ve always been deeply bothered when I hear someone speak ill of police since I don’t understand why anyone would hate cops if they weren’t criminals.
I’ve actually gone out of my way to randomly thank cops for their service to the community!

Let’s pretend that instead of the SPLC, it was the Catholic Church that organized this campaign to get white power music off of iTunes. Would that make a difference to you? Is the blind spot possessed by the SPLC a bigger deal to you than a powerful hate movement?

I’m going to ask a favor of the white supremacist faction on CAF. If you’re a white supremacist then be brave and just come out and say it. This stuff about, “but Holder is the biggest racist, der der der!” is cowardly. We cannot actually discuss your white power sympathies if you keep beating around the bush.

If something is wrong it’s wrong, regardless of who does it. However, (see below) I’m not sure it is wrong.

Unless I’m mistaken (and it’s certainly possible), nobody is saying it’s wrong because SPLC did it. I believe that those who think it is wrong believe it is wrong on free speech lines. They may be saying something more like ,“Look, they did this wrong thing, but that’s the sort of thing I expect from them because of [whatever].”

I am certainly not a white supremacist, because that makes no sense. I’m also not a redhead supremacist or a tall-person supremacist. The whole idea of one group of people being better than another because of physical characteristics they do not control is stupid.

I also think Holder is probably a racist, although certainly not the biggest one. I have no idea what that has to do with this thread, however.

I’ve never heard white-power music, and I have no intention of listening to it. I would fight quite strongly against an attempt to make it illegal, however, because it’s a free speech issue. A more practical reason is because it would only be about 5 minutes after that before music that espouses certain Catholic teachings would also be made illegal.

However, this isn’t about making a law. It’s about using social pressure to convince a merchant not to sell comething objectionable. I’m generally OK with that. Apple has the right to say that it does not care to profit from, or assist in providing profits for, white supremacists.

I don’t much care for the SPLC, but even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

How do you define “white-supremacism”? There are some political stances of the Catholic Church I am not a fan of and one of them would be the admonishing of countries like Italy and France for not taking in African and Muslim immigrants. The others would be turning it’s back on Franco(a good Catholic man who saved the Catholic Church and the Spanish Monarchy from the fate of the Romanovs and the Russian Orthodox Church after 1917) and the backstabbing of the Mexican Cristeros who would have been otherwise victorious against the Communist Plutarcho Calles.

I don’t really care if anyone, let alone you, calls me a “racist” or some other sort of nonsensical “ist”. I’m beyond that point and words like “racism” have been so overused to the point of not meaning anything to me and to many people, Catholic or not.

Who exactly do you refer to when you refer to the white supremacist faction of CAF? You use such a vague term that can mean anything and don’t qualify it. No country has the moral obligation to take in vast numbers of backwards and unassimilatable people and I believe in a country’s right to national sovereignty. If this makes me a racist, then I suppose I am. I do not believe that places like Haiti, post-1994 South Africa, and modern-day Detroit to be exemplars of sound government and high civilization. If that makes me a racist, then I suppose I am.
