Approaching Good Friday as Protestant - Looking for Advice

I am a Catholic and my Baptist husband said he would like to join me for today’s Good Friday liturgy. I am afraid of what he might think at the part where we pray for different groups, particularly the ‘schismatics and heretics’ and some of the language used in that prayer. I just don’t want him to be put off of the Church from that. Please help. I don’t know what to do. Thank you in advance.

You don’t have to apologize for the Church. It’s a good sign for him to join you and you should relax and enjoy yourself.

I would say you do owe him any apologies … You can express that there maybe parts that he may not be comfortable hearing I suppose … In reality though no apology is needed

If he doesn’t think of himself or his denomination as schismatics or heretics, why would he be offended? If he does suspect that he or they** are**, then he should explore entering communion with the Church.

If he wasn’t ever a Catholic in his life I wouldn’t worry too much about it. People born into other religions aren’t technically schismatics or heretics themselves anymore according to the RCC.

I don’t see anything in this prayer that would be offensive to another Christian.
