Hello

I am getting ready to take my 14 year old son on a day of recollection in preparation for his confirmation. Our parish does not offer this for the confirmandi as it is a small parish. My spiritual director has suggested we watch an appropriate movie as part of his day of recollection. I thought of “For Greater Glory” but wonder if anyone can suggest a different movie. I understand that martyrdom is a fact of life and standing up for your faith is part of the confirmation process but a movie with martyrdom as final ending seems a little severe.

What else would you suggest? I like “For Greater Glory” because it is about a 15 year old boy and it is an adventure type story but wish there was not so much death in it.

Thanks

I suggest that you son watch “For Greater Glory.”

A person of his age should begin (if not already) to be exposed to the facts of life and what martyrdom really is; he should begin to form interior convictions of just how much he is willing to sacrifice for Christ.

If he hasn’t already seen “The Passion,” keep that on your radar for movies to see, especially around the time of Lent (of course, his ability to take in such painful material should be considered). It is important for all Catholics to understand just how much Christ sacrificed for us, so we will do the same for Him.

How about “Which way home?” It is a documentary about children who immigrate to the USA,who died whilst attempting to cross ,get imprisoned etc.It is not just true story ,but an eye opener,as well.Just prepare some hankies. It has also Catholic them on it.

Father Daimien of molokai, great movie plus it has Peter O’Toole in it!

Thanks to everyone who posted an opinion or suggestion. I think that I will go with the story of Brother Andre. I think that it will show what I am trying to teach. That quiet perserverence and heed to God’s will is what is needed. It is more realistic to what we are living right now.

Thanks Again 🙂
