Someone mentioned Fr. Gobbi to me the other day and, while I’d heard of him, hadn’t read much about him. I did a little looking and saw that there are many concerns about his alleged locutions. From what little I’ve read it doesn’t seem that what he’s written is all bad and it even seems to be ok to read and his writings from the perspective of them being “advice” or things to meditate on. I’ve also seen that there is no definitive approval or condemnation of his writings.

What I’m wondering is, in cases like that of Fr. Gobbi where there are many alleged messages, it is possible for some messages to be truly divinely inspired while others are not? I seem to recall hearing once that this happens quite frequently, even with well-respected and accepted visionaries – upon inspection, some of the messages they receive are approved and others are not.

Does anyone have more information on this either specifically on Fr. Gobbi or in more general terms? I’d appreciate anything that anyone can offer.

Thank you and God bless, Jen

I can’t answer your question but I can give you a resource I recently read that discusses locutions.

The one I read belongs to a locutionist that attends a church in my diocese.

On the left hand side there is a box to click on regarding personal revelations, which will give you 2 additional links (as in an outline) regarding the CCC on this topic and the studies of the priest who wrote about Fatima and other appearances.

If you are interested in another locutionist, check out:

This one has a Q&A which is added to periodically.

Hope that helps!

the best guide I have ever seen for the individual discerning whether or not to accept “locutions”, visions, prophecies etc. is by Fr Groeschell, “A Still Small Voice”

Genreally time and synergy with the Catholic Faith can help determine. A spiritual director is very helpful, and the quickest way to codemn or refute revelations is if they contradict the Faith or ask the person to violate the Faith. From that point on, prayer, frequenting the Sacraments and a solid spiritual director is needed. Hope this helps. Thanks and God Bless.

The Words From Jesus site has a free 400+ page book offer, wordsfromjesus.com

And I saw that EWTN had a program by Fr. Fox called Reclaiming Your Children for the Faith where little mary was a guest, this page has a link to an audio of that show.
