Dear Brothers and Sisters,

There are some good references to share concerning this Devotion, I’ll use 2 today. First is the apparition of Mary and the Child Jesus to Sister Lucia:
Lucia was a postulant in the Convent of St. Dorothy in Pontevedra, Spain when she had the apparition of our Blessed Mother. She was standing over a cloud of light with the Child Jesus at her side. The Blessed Virgin put one hand on Lucia’s shoulder, while her other hand sustained her Immaculate Heart that was surrounded with thorns. The Child Jesus said: "Have compassion on the Heart of your Blessed Mother. It is surrounded with thorns that ungrateful men pierce each moment, and there is no one that is willing to offer an act of reparation to take the thorns away."

Our Lady immediately said to Lucia: "Look, my daughter. My Heart is surrounded with thorns that ungrateful men pierce unceasingly with their blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, try to console me and announce that for all those, who for five consecutive first Saturdays, confess, receive Holy Communion, pray the Holy Rosary and accompany me for15 minutes by meditating the mysteries of the Holy Rosary with the intention to do reparation, I promise to assist them at the hour of death with the graces needed for salvation." For more, see https://www.piercedhearts.org/heart...ns/fatima/fatima_lucia_later_apparitions.html
The Rosary Center gives some additional help:
" We will not dwell on the details of Our Lady’s request mentioned above, as they are sufficiently explained in many books and booklets. If, however, one would ask why Our Lady asked for Communions of reparation on five first Saturdays – instead of some other number, Our Lord answered that question when he appeared to Sr. Lucia May 29, 1930. He explained that it was because of five kinds of offenses and blasphemies against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, namely, blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception, against her perpetual virginity, against the divine and spiritual maternity of Mary, blasphemies involving the rejection and dishonoring of her images, and the neglect of implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of this Immaculate Mother. For more see: The Immaculate Heart of Mary – Rosary Center
Let us do as Jesus and Mary have both asked of us: Offer reparation, taking time today to offer our Rosary especially to have pity on our Mother. Let us “keep her company” in her suffering with Jesus. Many will be unable to be physically present at Mass, but hopefully they will offer Spiritual Communions in Reparation, and if possible be present spiritually to a Live-streamed Mass to offer ourselves with Jesus in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. May the Holy Spirit kindle in us all the Fire of Divine Love!

Dear Cath,

Thanks for your “faith-full and loving heart”. Every Saturday is “Mary’s Day” for me and I believe it is an ancient custom in the Catholic Church that Saturdays are days on which we remember especially Mary’s faithfulness on the First Holy Saturday following Jesus’ death on the First Good Friday.

Mary never wavered – she believed everything Jesus said and did. He said He would rise and so Mary waited in faith – with no doubts.

This morning after participating in the Live-Streamed Mass on EWTN and the opportunity for Spiritual Communion, I read Chapter 13 in St. Louis de Montfort’s book on “The Love of Eternal Wisdom

For anyone unfamiliar with this book, the link will take you to the online version of this small but beautiful book. The title of Chap. 13 is “A Summary of the Unutterable Sorrows Which Incarnate Wisdom Suffered For Love of Us”. It is a powerful summary - St. Louis was given insights by God for the Church, and I hope some may read at lease that chapter during Holy Week.

When we ponder the Sufferings of Jesus, we need to remember Mary’s sharing in those sufferings – even from his infancy. We need to remember the prophetic words Simeon spoke to Mary:
…“Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” (Luke 2:34 - 35)
Let us “keep Mary company” on this First Saturday, especially in praying and pondering the mysteries of the Rosary, making Reparation to her Immaculate Heart – pierced “spiritually for us” and Mary continues to be pierced by those who refuse to take her into their lives.

May our love of Mary serve to remove some of the thorns which pierce her Immaculate Heart. Mary Mother of the Church, Refuge of Sinners, pray for us.

Dear Stephie,

Thanks for your “Faith-full and loving heart”, also! As I mentioned to Cath - Every Saturday is “Mary’s Day” for me. Of course, there are many who feel the same way, but I also know there are many also who do not yet know or Love Jesus or Mary and that is so painful for those of us who have the desire to see Jesus and Mary known and loved more.

When I read that Jesus had appeared to Sister Lucia and explained why Our Lady asked for Communions of reparation on 5 First Saturdays, I was not surprised by the first 4 reasons, but the last one really was a sad realization that as far back as 1930, Jesus would speak of “the neglect of implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of this Immaculate Mother.

Having attended Catholic School, and later having taught in Catholic Schools, I was saddened that neglect had started as early as 1930. In my childhood there was for me at least no seeming neglect on the part of my teachers or my family. But perhaps I was more fortunate than many others, living in the USA and did not see the weeds growing among the wheat! Other countries may have seen it earlier. However, I’ve seen those weeds springing up with greater speed in recent years, and producing bitter fruit that is more obvious than ever now.

By God’s Grace, let us continue to pray our Rosary as Mary asked us to pray and let us help children especially in our families and among our friends to learn more about Mary and how lovable Mary is by learning to pray the mysteries of her life with Jesus and Joseph in the Holy Family in the Joyful Mysteries especially, but also help them grow into pondering God’s Great love in all the Mysteries.

Totus tuus!

I wrote in another thread,
“How can Mary - and rightful devotion to Mary - not be integral to all Catholic evangelization?”
I find, sadly, no surprise that the Blessed Mother is neglected in the formation of the hearts of children. She is neglected in the formation of Catholics generally - in much adult formation, in much formation of “youth”/teens, in most of what is called “evangelization,” in RCIA, in homilies …, everywhere.

It does not have to be this way - it ought not be this way.

Thanks so much! I also posted on this topic a little while ago, giving a link to the World Apostolate of Fatima’s recommendations for performing this devotion at home. Our Lady is especially concerned right now with all the children throughout the world suffering as a result of the present chastisement, with all the disruption to their daily lives and their parents under stress. So let us continue to console her Immaculate Heart!

Dear Fide,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, today it is not surprising that the Blessed Mother is neglected in the formation of the hearts of children and many times it is because Catholics generally, as you point out are simply not being taught about Mary.

Again, as you point out:
It does not have to be this way - it ought not be this way.
May God help us to pray the Lord of the Harvest to send laborers into His harvest. We are all called to holiness, and so children need to hear more about Jesus through Mary from their parents, who’ve been taught hopefully well by their parents as well as by holy teachers among laity, clergy and religious.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St. Joseph Guardian of the Child Jesus, pray for us.

Dear CF,

Thanks for your reply. Marian Devotion , ideally, starts at home. Parents are the primary educators of their children, but I know that good teachers in Catholic schools, and in parish schools of Religion can do much to build on what parents begin at home. Home, Catholic school, and Parish
schools of Religion can work together implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of this Immaculate Mother.

My dear Mother told us when we were young that she learned her faith by listening to our Catechism. She did not have the advantages we had but she grew in holiness because her faith kept growing stronger through her willingness to listen first to our Catechism lessons and then to the Scriptures after we had left home to be married or go to college, etc.

I hope many parents will heed the World Apostolate of Fatima’s recommendations for performing this devotion at home. When our “Social Distancing” ends, may the children and their parents then share more with other parishioners. Our First Saturday Masses used to be far better attended – but Covid-19 may bring some good results – after so much pain to many.

Jesus, we trust in You! Mary our Queen and our Mother we are all yours.
Totus Tuus! St. Joseph, protector of Jesus and Mary, pray for all families.

Dear Katie,

Thanks so much for the beautiful picture and prayer. I believe so strongly in the Church’s teachings on Mary, and it grieves me to see how many persons, Catholics and not Catholics alike, do not know the Love and Beauty of our Mother – given to us by Jesus, from His Cross.

Mary’s womb was the First “Tabernacle of Jesus” and we are called to be like her – for Mary Immaculate knew no sin, but was filled with God.

O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live in Your servants, in the Spirit of Your holiness, in the fullness of Your power, in the perfection of Your ways, in the truth of Your virtues, in the communion of Your mysteries. Rule over every adverse power, in Your Spirit, for the glory of the Father. Amen.

Yes you are so correct… the ground
Jesus walked on is the Holy land but do not apply this to the Holy Womb of Mary. Would this not make Her most Holy?

Following the events in her Son’s life, Mary shared in his drama of experiencing rejection from some of the chosen people. This rejection first appeared during his visit to Nazareth and became more and more obvious in the words and attitudes of the leaders of the people.

In this way the Blessed Virgin would often have come to know the criticism, insults and threats directed at Jesus. In Nazareth too she would have frequently been troubled by the disbelief of relatives and acquaintances who would try to use Jesus (cf. Jn 7:2-5) or stop his mission (Mk 3:21).

Through this suffering borne with great dignity and discretion, Mary shared her Son’s journey to Jerusalem (Lk 9:51) and, more and more closely united with him in faith, hope and love, she co-operates in salvation.

The Blessed Virgin thus becomes a model for those who accept Christ’s words. Believing in the divine message since the Annunciation and fully supporting the Person of the Son, she teaches us to listen to the Savior with trust, to discover in him the Divine Word that transforms and renews our life. Her experience also encourages us to accept the trials and suffering that come from fidelity to Christ, keeping our gaze fixed on the happiness Jesus promised those who listen to him and keep his word.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Thanks, hazcompat, for posting this quote from Pope St. John Paul II; I was especially blessed in reading the ending paragraph:

Dear Katie,

Thanks for another image of our Mother and the quote from St. Padre Pio.
Please let me know if I’m understanding your words, as you wrote:
…the ground
Jesus walked on is the Holy land but do not apply this to the Holy Womb of Mary. Would this not make Her most Holy?
Did you mean perhaps that some persons do not apply the same word “Holy” to Mary which they apply to the land, the ground, on which Jesus walked ? For Him to dwell within her womb made her “Most Holy” of all He created. Am I understanding you correctly? I think I am, but when you have a minute please let me know. Thanks again dear sister In the Immaculata

Thanks again for your love of Jesus through Mary and for your pictures and replies. Totus Tuus!
