No, he shouldn’t, but that’s the different between sui iuris Churches. Another different is a different theological tradition and differences in more than just which liturgical rite.

For the Pope to spin off the TLM as its own sui iuris Church is to admit that Vatican II made significant changes in such things, which it did not no matter what some wish to tell us.

I do not see the Pope doing this as he is a supporter of Vatican II and is on record as saying that the Mass in the Vernacular is a good thing.
I have been thinking about this since posting it and now it is to late to edit it so I am going to put my further thoughts that seem to contradict what I said in my last post.

After posting this I started to think who what I said stands with the existence of multiple Byzantine Catholic Church. They share a Theological Tradition and Liturgical Tradition so the only differences I could come up with are 1) national boundaries and 2) patriarchal sees that they are affiliated with. Some of them share #2 and and some also have #1 that overlap (or so it seems).

So then I had to ask myself. If I am not against all these multiple Byzantine jurisdictions then why would I be against a TLM Church.

I have to say, in the fact of that argument that I dealt myself, I can not stand against it.

So then I have to ask this. Where would this Church be set up? Only in the USA? Worldwide? Where would the bishops for it come from? How would it be set up? Who would head it and where would that see be?

No Motu Proprio today.

Let’s hope the Vatican blotter-jotters work on Saturday and it comes out then.

Since his feast is today April 30 (new calender) and May 5 is the old calendar. How about between… May 1 is St. Joseph, the worker – St. Joe is the patron saint of the universal church… It also the day St. Pius V died on . hmmmm

I’ve been building up hope for over a year now. Dates just come and go. I’ll believe it when I see it.

More reasons the day will be… (drum roll please)…

May 5th

Saturday the 5th is Derby Day. The 133rd running of the Ky Derby.

And there is a horse entered named… Dominican !

Pope Pius V was a Dominican. 🙂

And just for an added spice to the mix, nowadays, the Popes’ theologian is always a Dominican 👍

Sound silly ? Perhaps.

We’ll see 😃

Now who can argue with that? LOL 👍

Benedict XVI walks out onto the balcony overlooking St. Peter’s Square

“I have something I wish to tell you!”
, says the former Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, as he clears his throat. The massive crowd listens eagerly to what the Pontiff has to announce, while news cameras lock onto his handsome and distinguished features.

Then, as soon as the crowd’s cheering retires, Benedict exclaims:
“LOL!!1 JOKES!”

Benedict XVI returns inside, and the balcony doors close behind him

🤷

OK, third time:

April 30 is the feast of St. Catherine of Siena on the Traditional calendar, the one the Tridentine rite follows.

May 5 is the feast of St. Pius V on the Traditional calendar.

Why would Pope Benedict XVI issue a motu proprio for the Tridentine Mass based on the new calendar’s feast of St. Pius V?

Remember, we’re talking about the Tridentine Mass and traditional calendar. I highly doubt the motu proprio would come out on a Saturday. Therefore, I think we can put to rest that the motu proprio will coincide with the feast of St. Pius V.
My calendar is from my “Novus Ordo” parish. April 30 is St. Pius V., all May 5 says is “First Saturday”.

In my “1945 St. Andrew Daily Missal”, Pius V is indeed May 5.

This gives me a light of hope.
