What symbolism are the colors red and purple in respect to the Cardinal and Archbishop ranks in the Church? I heard from a fundamentalist that Revelation says they are unholy colors, but what do they REALLY mean?

Scarlet for a cardinal symbolizes his willingness to die for the faith. Amaranth (violet) for bishops and archbishops likely comes from European royalty, in which violet was/is a/the noble color. Originally, the color for bishops was green.

The idea that a color is inherently evil seems quite silly, and I wouldn’t put much trust in fundamentalists’ views regardless.

Amen to that.
