Amazing he was never given the office of Cardinal, but all that matters in the eyes of God is if a Bishop is holy and lays his life down for his flock. May our Archbishop never retire from these virtues.

He is definitely one of the best bishops in the U.S. I read that he has been subtly and quietly saying his goodbyes before his upcoming 75th birthday. It will be strange not having him in Philadelphia anymore, he’s seemed like a fixture there for me.

Amazing he was never given the office of Cardinal,

Because Cardinal Justin Rigali is still living. It’s quite common not to name an archbishop as a cardinal if the previous archbishop was one and is still alive.

That only applies if the living Cardinal is of voting age; Cardinal Rigali is not. He turned 80 over four years ago.
