"Baltimore Archbishop Demands Greater Accountability from Legionaries of Christ.

O’Brien says he will ban the Legionaries if they fail to comply".

…with a long, interesting interview with the archbishop.

This is his perogative as the spiritual head of his diocese…good for him.

A very interesting article; I read another about the topic, but without the extensive interview. I didn’t realize until reading this one how close he was to banning the movement from his dioceses (and how close he still is!)

I, for one, am very glad for the archbishop’s interview.

First of all, the archbishop granted a long and informative interview to:

(shudder)

The National (gasp!) Catholic (choke!) Reporter,

that notorious bastion of (I hate to say it) *liberal * Catholicism!!

Second, he assumed direct and total responsibility for the overview of an organization I have never trusted, not since Benedict muzzled the founder, (but didn’t outright censure him because he, the founder, was in bad health; he was old, and later died).

I hope that this dialogue between Archbishop O’Brien and the Legion helps to dispell the misunderstandings and lack of trust that has plagued the congregation for so long. I’m not insinuating that this group is perfect-afterall, we are all human. Certainly opening the lines of communication will be good for all who are involved.
