Two Communions, one centered on the developed world (TEC, Canada, CoE), and some others, one on the Anglican Global South, mainly the third world.

Interestingly, GAFCON Chairman Archbishop Eliud Wabukala responded about the Primates meeting today. He argues for a stronger Anglican Communion rather than the weaker one proposed by Archbishop Welby. A stronger communion would seem to push TEC and ACoC out, unless they accept discipline from the rest of the Communion.

It may be that Anglicanism, ironically, isn’t strong enough now to have a schism. You can have doctrinal disputes if 2 sides are committed to* different* fixed doctrines, but not if one side does not have a commitment to any fixed doctrines. The Anglican provinces in the US and Canada have financial and political influence beyond their numbers. The C of E itself, which the Archbishop is part of, is moving steadily in the direction of where the TEC is now.

More conservative parties can’t make the Communion “stronger” than the TEC and ACoC will accept. It’s easier to struggle against false doctrine than the current deemphasis on doctrine, itself.
The Communion might have enforced “discipline” a few decades ago, but that ship has already sailed, especially as the C of E is moving in that same direction. GAFCON members will decide if continuing in a very weak Communion is better than having no Communion. It’s hard to imagine an Anglican Communion separate from England, though it is possible.
