Williams comes from the Anglo-Catholic side of Anglicanism, though (like other recent Archbishops from that tradition) he represents the more liberal wing of Anglo-Catholicism.

Conservative evangelicals in the C of E naturally oppose him.
Many of them wore black armbands to protest his installation as Archbishop. There’s nothing particularly newsworthy here.
