Well maybe it’s time the rest of the world sent some back to us, I say that with sadness too.
Heard years ago that God promised Saint Patrick that Ireland wouldn’t lose the faith, but that don’t mean it won’t be battered and bruised.
I heard that Dublin has two priests from Africa in the diocese now.

Isn’t that a switch, Africa sending missionaries to Ireland 😦

Haven’t read that,oh well the layity are playing a bigger role than before supporting what priest’s we have, there are so many reasons, sex scandals, and another thing IMHO is materialism, Ireland has been swept in a tide of money.
But as usual we still have our poor, oh well Jesus did say the poor we have with us always.
Ireland is still helping people around the world, but good news travels slow or is never published, one is Trocaire, and another on local poverty is the St Vincent De Paul Society.

The Republic is having census soon and it’s the first time they have to publish multi language census forms, 7 or 8 different languages, this with all the influx of migrant workers for want of a better word, a complete turn-around for a country that has been scattered all around the world.

Anyway as for the shortage of priests, the Church has come thorugh a lot worse in 2000 years and I’m sure it’ll come through this, " The Gates of hell shall not prevail ". :bible1:

I noticed that too. One thing I also noticed was that once you get out of Dublin, Cork or Limerick, the rural towns are still doing pretty well.

When I was last in Ireland, Mass attendance was fine in my mother’s home town in Sligo.

No vocations thought. Young men generally move to Dublin to find work, not Maynooth 😉

That I’ll agree with. There is a great group of Irish Pallotines in Detroit raising funds for their African and Latin American missions.

Excluding the Gaelic forms, right 😉

Ah ! Sligo-Sligeach just down the road from me, go that way to Knock and also the house of prayer, the N17 I’m sure you know it well, there’s even a song about it, the Saw-doctors.

Yes not forgetting the Gaelic, do you know it’s on the increase again ? well it is listed as our primary language and it has been give a leg up by TG4, and especially by Ros na Rún the young are taking an interest in the language again because of it.

Anyway don’t want to high-jack the thread. :o

The assistant priest (sometimes called an archpriest) at a Solemn High Pontifical Mass (or the First Mass of a newly ordained priest) wears a cope.

Veils for women are commonly found at Tridentine Masses today, and they are preferred, but they are generally not obligatory in most indult settings, including FSSP Masses.

My nitpick concerns the bishop recessing out at the end of Mass. Where are his gloves? 😉
