Archbishop Sample uses his experience as a Catholic born in 1960–the first bishop ordained among those born in the 1960s or later–and the growth of his appreciation for the Extraordinary Form as a background for his thoughts on the topic.

It is 43 minutes long, but worth watching. Archbishop Sample not only relates his own thoughts and experiences with the EF, how it even affected his own identity as a priest, but relates conversations he has had directly with Pope Benedict XVI and direct quotations the Pope made about his intentions in issuing Summorum Pontificum. The Archbishop also talked about supporting the EF as a matter of ministering to all of the Church and responding to the unfortunate marginalization that those who love the EF too often feel.

I simply explained that I have to be the shepherd of all God’s flock entrusted to my care. This includes those who have the legitimate desires to be spiritually nourished by the ancient liturgy of the Church…[they] have long felt marginalized and forgotten in the Church. It is time that they had their proper respect and place within the Body of Christ.”
