Archbishop Sheen Explains the Latin Mass

I don’t know if this has been posted or not, but for those who haven’t experienced the Traditional Latin Mass and fear they may not be able to understand it, Archbishop Sheen does an outstanding job explaining many of the details about the Mass on this video. The video is not exactly hi-def, but it is certainly worth a watch.

Note: This video is of an Easter Mass, so my apologies in advance for not waiting until Easter to post it. However, if you live near a parish that says the EF, I cannot recommend highly enough how beautiful the Holy Triduum Services are in the old rite. That’s why I’m posting this early.

Beautiful! Its interesting to think that most of the people in the film are probably dead, but that same eternal body and blood is re-presented in every Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Thank you for pointing this out. I will be attending a High Mass in the Extraordinary Form in our parish on the Feast of St. Joseph, which by the way is the same day that Pope Francis will be inaugurated. I have no doubt that it will be a beautiful celebration. But I find that our celebrations of the Mass in the ordinary form are no less beautiful.

 Our Catholic radio station in Phoenix broadcasts "Life Is Worth Living", which is like having catechism class on Sunday afternoon. 

 I entered the Church in 1990 and had no idea what "the Latin mass" was -- thinking it was just the mass that was being offered in the parish, just in Latin -- and it was confusing for the first few times I was able to attend, but the initial confusion was nothing compared to the confusion that I was leaving behind . . .

I see this all the time with most of the Catholics I work with and with my wife’s extended family. They do not understand the faith, many don’t attend weekly Mass, and those that do go are poorly catechized. Confusion abounds in the Catholic Church in this country which is I why I keep praying for more holy men like Archbishop Sheen to energize and catechize the flock!
