Archbishop Sheen's Cause Goes on Despite Irresolution Over Tomb

The Vatican will have to decide about the fate of Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s crypt, but support for the cause of his canonization is going forward.

At least some progress is being made, but I do not really understand the fuss about where he is buried (i.e. if Peoria is the one to continue the cause, does he have to be moved to there?).
 
I think the fuss has to do with the right Peoria would have to his body since they are the diocese who is promoting his cause, vs. his desire to have been buried at St Patrick’s in NYC. He loved NYC. Peoria was the home of his childhood. NY of his adulthood

Im guessing if his body was removed to Peoria, that may increase pilgrimage to that area, though. Who knows.

Personally I am always of the thought that the wishes of a person should be honored.

Regardless of the location of his remains, just think what his voice would do for the Church in America today during this current time of inconsistency and abdication of responsibility.

He would not be afraid to speak out.

If Bishop Sheen is canonized a saint, it means money for the location of his crypt. If ten thousand people a year visit his crypt, where are they going to stay, what are they going to eat and what will they buy? I’ve been to the basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico. There is a thriving industry around the basilica. This sort of wrangling has been going on for centuries.

Interesting. I am tempted to call that avarice. However, I can see their perspective. Money is a necessity for the Church and everyone one else.
 
No, not the Church. Businesses will profit from this if it happens. There is a certain practicality about the matter. Have you ever been to Mexico and seen the tilma with Our Lady of Guadalupe on it? If so, you stayed in a hotel, ate food somewhere and probably bought at least one religious item. Perhaps you toured the area and spent some money. I hope a more knowledgeable historian than myself could list some facts about past relics and the business they generated. It is akin to the baseball hall of fame; that generates money for that area. There is nothing devious here, just business.
 
I would like to know what were Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s own wishes about where he wished to be buried?
Also, who cares about who gets the money from the burial site.

I found his books a great inspiration to me when I was younger.

All right. I have never been to Guadeloupe or any other notable shrines, by the way.
 
The ONLY reason Peoria would want to have his remains moved there, would be for the “status”. That is VERY WRONG THINKING!

Pope John Paul the 2nd was born in a small village in Poland. He was Archbishop of Krakow for years. There was some sentiment to move his body back to Krakow, but that didn’t happen.

It should not happen in the case of Archbishop Sheen either.
 
I miss him so.
