The Archbishop of Toronto has called on a day of prayer next Sunday in all churches in the archdiocese. Achbishop Thomas Collins wants the public to write to their MPs, the Prime Minister and the Governor General to ask that the award of Order of Canada, (Canada’s highest award) be revoked for Dr. Henry Morgentaler the abortionist.

I already E mailed the Prime Minister expressing my disgust that this murderer of the innocents be awarded the Order of Canada, and called him a national disgrace who should be kicked out of the country not given a medal.
Similar sentiments were expressed by E mail to my MP in Etobicoke Centre.
The Prime Minister has sent by E mail an acknowledgement of receiving my message. So far nothing has been received from my MP. These E mails were sent two days ago as soon as I heard about it.

Unfortunately, Morgantaller doesn’t meet the criteria required for his Order of Canada to be revoked.

Maybe not, but it cannot be denied that he didn’t deserve it in the first place. The Archbishop of Toronto Thomas Collins has written to Michaelle Jean , the Governor General, about this matter - to see if a way can be found- to revoke it, cancel it, or whatever.

I am so happy that our new Archbishop has spoken out on this topic in such kindly, yet such strong terms. Kindly, because he has asked for prayers for a conversion for Dr.Morgentaler and for kindness and compassion to be shown those contemplating abortion, giving names of homes and organizations in the diocese where mothers to be can obtain help in a loving way and keep the child.

It’s good that he has done this but it will NEVER get revoked. It’s happened and done with now.

Having said that, the only way it might get revoked is if other members of the Order of Canada were to publicly demand his revokation of it, then that might happen.

It won’t get revoked. I still don’t understand why they gave the Order to a criminal like that 🤷 I was listening to the report on it on AM680 and they made him sound like a hero, and pro-lifers were called “fundamentalists”, a nice vague, negative label.

Off topic- Pondero I am also in Etobicoke(just moved)! May I ask what parish you attend?

The problem is that he’s not a criminal. We may think he’s a murderer but unfortunately he’s never been convicted of anything; too bad, since being a convicted criminal would have kept probably kept him off Order’s roster.

Didn’t he spend time in prison for doing abortions before abortion was legal?

He was convicted and imprisoned but the conviction was overturned so he has no criminal record.

According to this article, he may sooner rather than later be facing a Judge he can’t flout.

I detest what he stood for in this life, but I don’t find any pleasure in knowing that the day of his accounting may be drawing near. Unless he repents, it isn’t going to be pretty.

They’re right. Let’s pray that he, like Dr. Nathanson, be converted and turn back from his evil ways.

I dont even live in Canada and I wrote emails of compliant to the GG, and the PM. I also wrote a letter of support to the office of Archbishop Collins thanking him for his public stand.

It’s funny, I posted a link to the CP article from Canwest news service in the Apologetics forum and all that was replied to it was: “That’s sad.”

Glad to hear that others care. I have also been writing letters.

Unfortunately, due to his history, that one does not have the desired effect and people are having a field day with it.
Funny you should mention that as I was reading the “comments” on CBC’s website on that article and the level of hate, and there is no other word I can describe that those people were posting on Catholicism and the Catholic Church was just shocking. Perhaps other O of C recipients will speak up in the coming days.

You could say that until the Award is given to him that it might be revoked.

I wrote to the Governor General as well as the Prime Minister of Canada and my MP in Etobicoke Centre, and so far only the Prime Ministers Office has responded. In fact the PMs office first acknowledged receipt of my E-mail, very quickly and then sent the following communique. I have highlighted the important part as it appears that the Prime Minister is not happy with the choice of Dr. Morgentaler. Anyhow, why paraphrase, read it for yourself.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Sxxxxxxx.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, I would like to acknowledge receipt of your recent correspondence regarding the Order of Canada. We have noted your concern and are pleased to have this opportunity to respond.

The Government is not involved in either the deliberations or decisions with respect to which individuals are appointed to the Order of Canada. It is Rideau Hall that approves the final appointments based on the recommendations of the Advisory Council of the Order of Canada, which is chaired by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada.

**With respect to specific appointments to the Order, the Prime Minister’s preference is for the Order of Canada to be an honour that unifies and brings Canadians together. Clearly, this appointment did not do that.

**To further express your concerns, we would recommend that you contact the Governor General’s office directly at:

Once again, thank you for taking the time to write.

Sincerely,

Yes, the Gov’t was in full damage control before the appointment was announced. Conservative MPs had been issued talking points before the announcement was made, pointing out that the recipients are chosen at arm’s length from the Gov’t.

PMO distances itself from Morgentaler’s appointment

With a report from Dakshana Bascaramurty in Toronto
TORONTO, OTTAWA – The Harper government was quick to distance itself from the announcement that Henry Morgentaler, the controversial abortion doctor who changed the face of health care in the country, was named yesterday to the Order of Canada.
The Tories, no doubt sensing a brewing backlash from their conservative base, issued a brief response outlining how the appointment process has nothing to do with the government.
“The Conservative government is not involved in either deliberations or decisions with respect to which individuals are appointed to the Order of Canada,” the PMO statement said.
