The Archdiocese of Chicago is the latest to suspend Masses due to the Coronavirus:

I suspected that this might occur after the governor of Illinois announced a ban on all gatherings of 1000 people of more and discouraged gatherings of more than 250 people.

Includes Joliet. Also Seattle, Boston and Detroit

What can one say? I’ve heard experts say, there is light at the end of the tunnel but we will need to make these sacrifices, outlast this.

All Sunday Masses in Québec as well. Monasteries and religious communities on lockdown as well, only permanent members of the community permitted at the conventual Mass. Notre-Dame basilica in Montreal closed to the public. St Joseph’s oratory still open but no public Masses.

I wish headlines would be more clear that Masses are not being cancelled or suspended, but merely public attendance at them. It’s a good opportunity for a reminder that Mass–as the same sacrifice as the Cross, but in an unbloody manner–has value even when there’s no one in the pews.

Newsmax, Sean Spicer’s show, former White House Secretary brought up an example where the Archdiocese of Washington DC cancelled but the Archdiocese of Arlington Virginia has continued Masses.

That kind of conflicts with what I said. I thought some masses were being cancelled, it’s up to each Archdiocese.

😳 Suspending all masses?

Is there a white flag hanging on the steeple … so people will know?

I don’t know if what they’re trying to accomplish will work …
… but I"M starting to feel a little … sick. 🥴

DANIEL 12: 9 “Go, Daniel,” he said, “because the words are to be kept secret and sealed until the end time.

10Many shall be refined, purified, and tested, but the wicked shall prove wicked; the wicked shall have no understanding, but those with insight shall.

11 From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the desolating abomination is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days.

12 Blessed are they who have patience and persevere for the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.

13 Go, take your rest, you shall rise for your reward at the end of days.”

If you read the actual decrees, Masses are not ceasing. Priests are still saying Mass. They are still offering the Eucharistic sacrifice. Public attendance is what is being suspended.

It’s important to understand this distinction, which is why I complained about the headlines earlier in the thread. Mass without anyone in attendance is still Mass.
