Does anyone know the process for appointing/electing a new bishop to replace Bishop Kaising, who died last weekend? I imagine the replacement must come from within the military archdiocese.
I’m curious about the time frame for a replacement as well. I’ve heard that another of the bishops will be confirming our young adults this spring, so will we be that long without a successor?

the process is the same for raising an archbishop in any other archdiocese, the Vatican makes the appointment, and no, the new bishop does not necessarily have to come from within that archdiocese. As this is one of more important sees, the appointment will probably come rather quickly.

Let us pray that an appointment is made as so, since this archdiocese deals with the souls of those serving in the military as well as the VA.

Bishop Kaising, God rest his soul, was an auxilliary bishop, lest anybody think the AMUSA is entirely without a bishop,

as great as the loss of Bishop Kaising is (and now Heaven’s joy).

Our Pastor is a military chaplain and has already spent a tour of duty serving the marines in Iraq. Rest in Peace Bishop!

Bishop Kaising was priest in Cincinnati suburb before he a bishop. Both funeral and burial are in Cincinnati

Sort of,

He was a US Army Chaplain ( a full bird Colonel) who retired from the military and was appointed to a parish in his home ( Cinci) diocese.

It was from there he was named a bishop and returned to the Archdiocese of the Military.

My wife and I loved the man to bits, it’s a real loss for the Church Militant
